Aputure DECLR overview

  • 1Description

The Aputure DEC LensRegain Adapter for MFT adds a focal reducing optical element, making it not only a follow focus and adapter, but also a device that gives cropped sensor cameras a full-frame-like view. It allows you to use EF lens on Micro 4/3 mount camera bodies. It enhances MTF performance and also adds an additional stop of light.

0.75x Magnification & Super 35mm View

The 0.75x degree of magnification is deliberately chosen to get you the equivalent of a Super 35mm camera when a Canon EF 50mm lens is attached to a MFT camera body.

Add an Additional Stop of Light, T-Stop Display

In terms of exposure, the DEC LensRegain also adds to your maximum aperture by one stop of light. That means your f/1.4 lens will work like that of an f/1.0 lens. With this advantage, a lower ISO can be set in low light shooting, and a higher shutter speed can be set while still maintaining the proper exposure. To more accurately determine exposure in relation to this additional stop, the new T-stop is also displayed on the DEC LensRegain's OLED screen.

Focal-Reducer & Performance Enhancer

In addition to getting a full-frame-like view, the DEC LensRegain has 7 layers of anti-reflective coatings on each of its 4-element, 4-group optical elements. It reduces the view of an EF lens to 0.75x and also brings more information and light to each bit of your camera's sensor.
Follow-Focus & Focus-Reducer
The DEC LensRegain functions both as a follow focus and a focal-reducing-adapter. The 2.4 GHz wireless frequency allows you to wirelessly follow focus, remotely start/stop recording, and adjust aperture. The internal focal-reducing element allows you to regain the equivalent field of view of a full-frame camera.
Updated Design
The DEC LensRegain also features an all-metal build for durability and an extra 1/4" mount for easier mounting onto your existing equipment like electronic stabilizers, Steadicam, and rocker arm sideways. A separate extended cable and bracket allow for a wider range of possible set ups.

    Aputure DECLR reviews

DEC LensRegain Adapter for Canon EF Mount Lenses to MFT Mount is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice kit It's early days yet but it is working as advertised and I can also confirm it not only works with Canon lenses but it works with Sigma EF mount lenses such as the 24-70 f2.8. I would give it 5 stars except that it has a couple of minor issues: The fit of the adapter is not as tight as I would like on the camera (MFT) side, the EF side is fine. Also, I find the 'push on' only fit of the lens mounted control unit to the adapter, with no locking mechanism to hold it in place other than friction, to be a little cheap. Other than those gripes it looks like it will be a very nice addition to my rig ...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great concept - early iteration teething problems So I've waited a month or so before reviewing this product, to get a real feel for it. Without doubt, it's a brilliant concept, and I love the product, but there's a level of assumed risk with purchasing this adapter. First, the good news: The optics are great - as good as a metabones speed booster. I've used this with canon and sigma lenses on a Gh5 and it's sharp across the aperture range, with no weird vignetting or distortion at the edges of the frame. The follow focus works well ? it takes a little bit of getting used to, given you're working with photography glass, not cine lenses, but the pulls are smooth and accurate once you learn to operate it and get a feel for how your lenses react to external control. Slow motion focus pulls are buttery smooth ? I'm using this with a GH5, and thanks to the fast throw of my stills lenses, I can get beautiful, smooth and accurate focus pulls in high frame rates. This alone has made the purchase worthwhile. What looks like a fast, jarring focus shift at 25p is gorgeous at 180fps. The aperture lock button is great for when you're on the move and need to jump from f11 to wide open in an instant. Great for ENG applications, and with some practice I can get smooth transitions from exteriors to interiors. The bad news: *Build quality. The lens adapter is 100% solid. The control handle is plastic but doesn't feel cheap ? two from two so far. Enter the receiver module. Its mount is utterly inadequate, and engineered to look stronger than it is, by my reckoning. There's a good 4mm of play in any direction when mounted to the lens adapter, and all the weight appears to be on the connector pins, not the flange sleeve. In short, I'm VERY careful in setting up/tear down as it feels like you could break it with harsh language. I had purchased this product to use with a gimbal mounted to a car, giving me remote control from the passenger seat ? I'm not so sure I'll be doing that now, given the receiver could break or dislodge in the

Rated 2 out of 5 by from great concept, terrible quality ivehad 2 of the lensregain already, and the base isnt strong enough to hold the whole camera setup. screws going loose all the time and if you tighten it the threads just go. and my setupisnt even that heavy. gh4.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New to DSLR videography and happy with the setup I purchased this as a new move to DSLR shooting on a GH4. Works as described and I am still working with it to test its limits. So far, it would be good for the adapter to allow the camera to talk to the lens. This would be good if you want to bypass the adapter for other camera features and autofocus for photos.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not worth it After a few months of use the base has become irreparably loose, rendering this product almost completely useless. If I would have known how bad the quality was I would've gone with a Metabones right away. I guess it can't handle a Canon 70-200 on a GH4. Something else must have came loose as well because my lenses' (Sigma 18-35 especially) infinity focus has not been working either when attached to the loose adapter.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Loose Parts The first time I used this with my GH4+Sigma 1.2 18-35 I mounted my tripod to the thread base of the Lens Regain and within a few minutes the base started to get loose. I tightened it a few times but only lasts a few minutes before getting loose again. The transmitter that attaches to the side of the base is naturally loose as well. For the price you pay you'd think they'd design a sturdier product. The wireless record doesn't work automatically either but maybe I have to adjust a setting?
