The Fargo HDP5000 High-Definition Dual-Sided Printer/Encoder with Single-Sided Lamination comes with a standard holographic (500 prints) HDP film that fuses to the surface of proximity and smart cards, conforming to ridges and indentations formed by embedded electronics. Batch jobs are simplified by the use of a 100-card input hopper and a 200-card output hopper. Checking print status is easy with a SmartScreen graphical display on the front panel and with Color Assist tool for diagnostics and matching colors for accurate prints. Additionally, it has both USB 2.0 and Ethernet connectivity options.
The Omnikey 5121 Reader Board is a dual interface PC-linked reader that reads/writes to both a 13.56 MHz contactless smart card and virtually any contact smart card. The dual interface feature, implemented on a small PCB, economically supports end-user environments where both contactless and contact smart card technology may be in use.
By printing a reverse image on the underside of the HDP film, then fusing the film to the card surface, the printer creates an image quality that looks more like a sharp glossy photo. Printing on film instead of directly on the card means that the uneven surface of technology cards doesn’t compromise the image quality. In addition, the printer can print double-sided and edge-to-edge for optimum quality.
For added protection during the printing process, the printhead never comes in contact with card surfaces or debris. Cards produced by high definition printing are tamper-resistant and can withstand wear and tear. Cards, ribbons and overlaminates can be quickly loaded via the cartridge-based system. In addition, the printer is suitable for creating government IDs, corporate IDs, and student IDs.
