Not what I expected

I mounted this on a FN .308 with high expectations. I would consider myself a better than average shooter with my loads on this gun. First issue that I started with is that at my range I needed to hit paper at 25 yards (parallax stats at 50 yards) to start a zero dial in. I wasn't very concerned about this. With a blurry shot I hit paper. I next moved my target out to 50 yards. I took a a couple of shots and felt that I was close enough to move out to 100 yards to get serious for a 100 yard zero. This is where my expectations fell through a hole. I had problems focusing my reticle to the target. It seemed very sensitive with how my eye was positioned on the rear lens. Even after many shots I never felt my zero was very consistent. My groups were never as good as they were with my old scope. I got home and started playing with the focus on the rear lens and noticed that any side to side force on focusing the rear lens made the reticle move. So here is my point. When focusing the rear lens, you should not be able to put any lateral force on the focusing knob, as this moves the reticle. In all the scope came with all accessories you would need, the turrets were very positive and tactile. I don't know if this a manufacturing problem or this scope was defective. I returned it immediately for a different brand.

So far so good!

Bought a xtr 2 in 3-15 so far the glass is great!!! Took it out for the first tracking test and it failed miserably, however it did return to absolute zero! Gonna take it out again and play with the parallax adjustment some more a perform a second test. If optic fails to track again it will be sent back to the factory. Two stars for now hopefully this will improve after the second test.

A great value

I purchased the 3-15X power scope "only" six months ago; however, I have put thousands of rounds through the gun to include a sniper school. The scope allows me to consistently shoot .159" groups (Fed GM 168gr .308 in a stock Ruger Precision). The scope was good for center mass hits at a 1,000 yards and I suspect I would have hit the 8" circle if I had not shot it up at shorter distances (600 and 800 yards) with the same gun. I also used the scope to make accurate shots at night during the low-light shoot/no shoot portion of the school. This long range performance exceeded my expectations for a 3-15X scope. I'm so satisfied with the performance of the XTR II that I was hoping to hold out for the XTR III to put on my new 6.5 CM but I couldn't wait so purchased a second XTR II but in 5-25X.

question

Illuminated red Ballistic 5.56 Gen 3 reticle optimized for use with 5.56/.223 and 7.62/.308 ammunitionIs there a chart for 7.62??
Asked by: dale j.
That scope only works with 5.56. For 308 you could use Burris scopes with Ballistsic CQ reticles. This one has a mil-based reticle for general use. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=201012&N=0&InitialSearch=yes&sts=ma&Top+Nav-Search
