You apply these strips to a backing board with their adhesive tape -- for your purposes the adhesive tape is 1-sided, being already attached to the firm plastic strip.The adhesive doesn't cover the full width of the plastic strip; it leaves perhaps 1/5 of plastic free to act as a trap for the item being mounted. There is no adhesive in direct contact with the mounted item's surface.This is ideal for use on a backing board where glass and/or matting will keep the artwork from falling out of the strip's thin rim of plastic. It wouldn't work for a large paper item which lacked a glass in front -- the paper's weight would pull it out of plastic edges, I suspect. The role of this is to prevent artwork from shifting around after it matted and framed.Note that the adhesive holding the mounting strip is outside the dimensions of the artwork: the backing board needs to be around an inch wider than the artwork to have room for the strips.
