The Bass Attack 2 from Hartke is a preamp and direct box intended for use with electric bass. Sporting a tube-emulation overdrive circuit—as well as a mix control for this distortion feature—you can achieve timbres varying from tasteful harmonic overdrive to all-out snarling fuzz. A tone knob gives you control over the distortion's harmonic character, though this pedal features its own EQ section too, with bass and treble controls, as well as a contour switch for dipping the midrange. Furthermore, a separate tone-shaping circuit instantiates a frequency-adjustable preset EQ curve for further timbre tweaking. This DI/preamp supports the outputs of both passive and active instruments, and can route your signal in a variety of ways.

Hartke HPBA2 Overview
Multiple Connections Possible
Using the Bass Attack 2, you can route signal to its final destination through a number of different audio paths. For instance, you can supply one amplifier with unaffected signal, another amplifier with processed signal, and a mixer/PA/interface with processed signal via the XLR output—all at the same time
Accepts Phantom Power
While the unit can be powered via two AA batteries or a separately available power supply, the Bass Attack 2 can also support 48V phantom power straight from a mixer. This is particularly useful if you're using the device as a DI—just make sure the lift/ground switch is in the ground position to enable this feature
