    Seagate ST10000NM0016 reviews

    10TB 7200 rpm SATA 6 Gb/s 3.5" Internal Enterprise Hard Drive is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seagate 10TB HD into Win10 System Bought 2 drives and installed as Raid 1. Unlike previous versions of Windows which required hours to partition and format, Win10 took 1 or 2 minuets and everything was up and running. I do a lot of photo editing and I offloaded least used archives from my SSD to the HDD Raid. The drives are fairly quiet and tolerable transfer rates if I need to get to any archived photos. This system replaced 2 aging external drives and I am very happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Drive I wrote an earlier review here and raised a few concerns about this drive, since that time I ordered four more and completed the upgraded to my Synology DS1513+. Since the first drive, Synology now lists this drive as compatible and it most certainly is. All five work flawlessly and as I said before, give the performance, warranty, and price, this is one of the best 10TB drives around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well and quietly I used this to replace one of my aging WD Green disks, along with a 1TB Seagate Iron Wolf. Out of the two Seagate disks, this one's my clear favourite due to operating noise. This one makes essentially "regular" soft ticking sounds when seeking - the Iron Wolf, by contrast, makes some rather annoying clicking sounds. In terms of performance they seem pretty close though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet operation, no bad sectors upon delivery Purchased two of these 10 TB drives three weeks ago for a home backup solution mounted in a 1U rackmount enclosure. After checking all sectors for errors, and finding none, I put the drives into service. Nice quiet operation, well built, and I have not had any issues with them yet. I will certainly order 2 more in the future to fill up my enclosure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional Hard Drive both fast and quiet. This drive is fast and quiet. I use it in my video workstation for archiving. It has performed flawlessly. Only thing I found annoying was the lack of third mounting hole on both sides of drive frame requiring a modification to my drive caddy. I'm very pleased with purchase. Drive arrived quickly and was packaged well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Seems Good But Its Complicated I have a Synology DS1513+ that I purchased from B&H in March of 2014 along with five 4TB drives. Running in RAID 6 this gave me about 11TB of usable space. In three years I've nearly filled that space with tons of photos, music, movies, and two Time Machine backups. So the quest began to replace the five drives with something bigger. The 10TB drives seemed to be just the ticket and after seeing what was available I landed on this one. I wanted to start slow so I ordered one of these to see how it would work and will order the rest over the next couple of months. When I got the drive, the first thing I learned is it would not fit in the DiskStation trays. This drive only has screw holds in front and back and DiskStations pre June 2014 have an extra pin in the middle but many disk makers have stopped including the middle screw hole. This made me check the Synology website where I learned this drive was not listed as a compatible drive. I immediately requested an RA from B&H to return this hard drive and I also set an email to Synology support because it appeared no 10TB hard drives are listed as working on pre June 2014 DiskStations. Synology was very helpful, thank you Matthew, and what I learned was the only reason the older Diskstations are not compatible is because of that middle pin. Break off the pin and the drives will now fit. But the question remained about this particular drive not being listed as compatible. Matthew said that Synology can't guarantee the performance of this drive but I could try it to see if it worked, so I did. After the 24 hours needed to rebuild, the drive is operating just fine. This particular drive is part of a family of drives that have different options from standard to Hyperscale 512e, to encryption, and encryption/FIPS. Each has a different model number. This particular version uses Hyperscale 512e, whatever that is. I searched all over and could not find a good explanation. The version that Synology says is compatible is the standard version or model ST10000NM0086. At this time, B&H does not carry the standard version. I gave this drive four stars because the specs of it are great. High read-write speeds, very low energy use, and a five year warranty. It is also one of the best price in this class. But, I'm concerned why this model number is not listed as compatible with DiskStation. It seems to be working just fine so perhaps Synology will add it to the list. Until then I'm hesitant to buy four more of these drives to complete my upgrade. Would be curious to hear from some storage professionals on this issue. Thanks.
