Sony PXW-FS5 reviews

PXW-FS5 FS RAW Output Upgrade License is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Turns a good camera great. As an existing Odyssey 7Q owner, this Raw update for the FS5 turns a decent camera into a high-usable A-Cam. Had issues with codec breakdown and blocking with the FS5, especially in slow motion settings, so we had relegated the camera to B-cam secondary shooting and opted for the FS7 most of the time. Now, being able to output Raw via the SDI to the Odyssey, this camera is now a viable A-cam alongside the FS7. Update is easy to install and well worth it (if you have a raw recorder of some kind).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Turn Fs5 into Fs7 Great upgrade if you want to kick out Raw files. You'll need an Odessy as Sony's raw recorders are absurdly expensive. Also Shogun can get close to Raw with its prores codec.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from silly process, but significantly improves the FS5 The idea of unlocking a feature that is already built into a product irks me, but that's the game we have to play these days. Having to pay for a piece of paper to be mailed to me to initiate the process that is completed via the internet is absurd. These gripes aside, the upgrade does add features that bring the camera to a new level. I think SONY could have included the faster frame rate option, but...well, its all about the money, isn't it?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent upgrade option This raw upgrade unlocks 4096x2160 and raw SDI output on the FS5. It makes an excellent film tool even better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great upgrade It was a little tricky to install, but worked great with the Atomos Shogun Flame recorder. I was able to shoot 4K RAW with great results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it Worth every penny. If you're buying the FS5 you should buy this upgrade.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must-have option for FS5 users This was a really good investment. Right away this upgrades your camera into a workhorse and stacks up to RED camera image quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Improvements beyond RAW Right out of the bat, the biggest thing for me was still being able to monitor the image while outputing 4K. I could only record HD internally while doing so, but still having my LCD was huge. DCI resolutions was good too. For U$ 350 it is a no brainer, but it could really be something online instead of having to get it by mail.
