Leica engineered the 35mm Digiscoping Objective Lens to address two key drawbacks to their original digiscoping adapter: to improve the transition between observation and taking photos, and to take advantage of the wide zoom magnification range afforded by the eyepiece. Where the old adapter replaced the eyepiece, therefore effectively making the APO-Televid into a fixed-focal length telephoto lens, this new objective lens mounts over the eyepiece so users can quickly remove it to make observations and easily re-install it to capture photos. This mounting also allows users to zoom in on subjects using the eyepiece therefore maintaining the spotter's versatility even while digiscoping.

can this be used with the SL?
Yes, it can be used with the SL. You would need in addition a T2 mount adapter for the L mount cameras (Leica part # 42335) which accommodates SL, CL, & TL camera bodies. The L mount adapter simply screws to the basal end of the 35 mm Digiscoping Objective Lens, the set screw tightened and then mounted directly to a Leica SL, TL, or CL camera body. However, since the 35 mm Digiscoping Objective Lens is optimized for an APS-C sensor it will fulfill the frames of these and micro 4/3rds sensors, BUT on full frame cameras like the SL some vignetting in the corners will remain. The 35 mm Digiscoping Objective Lens can be used with any camera with interchangeable lenses through the addition of the proper T2 ring which provides the proper bayonet mount for the specific camera body.
