This system is powered by a 3.5 GHz Intel Xeon E3-1245 v5 Quad-Core processor which will allow you to run multiple applications simultaneously and also features a burst speed of up to 3.9 GHz. The 8GB of 2133 MHz DDR4 ECC RAM helps to ensure smooth multitasking and also allows the computer to quickly access frequently-used files and programs. While the current memory configuration is 1 x 8GB, there are four total memory slots that will allow the RAM to be upgraded to 64GB, using a 16GB chip in each of the four memory slots.
For storage of your files, this HP Z240 is equipped with a 256GB Z Turbo Drive PCIe SSD. While this SSD may not have the larger storage capacity of a traditional spinning hard drive, it contains no moving parts, which helps it to be more resistant against bumps, drops, and other kinds of damage. SSDs also receive less wear and tear than traditional hard drives, as there are no read and write heads. Additionally, as this SSD connects via PCIe as compared to SATA, it is able to operate with even greater data transfer speeds. It provides reads up to 1.08 GB/s and writes up to 800 MB/s.
If you want to add external storage drives or other peripherals, the Z240 features 6 x USB 3.0 ports and 4 x USB 2.0 ports. For users who wish to add additional components or upgrade the existing drive bays, the Z240 has 2 x 3.5" internal bays, 1 x 2.5" internal drive bay, and 2 x external 5.25" bays. There are also a total of four PCIe expansion slots and one M.2 slot that uses a PCIe Gen3 x4 connection.
The integrated Intel HD Graphics P530 delivers a sharp, clear picture, and features two DisplayPort 1.2 and one Single Link DVI-I video output. Whether you are listening to music, watching a movie, or playing a game, the integrated Realtek HD ALC221-VB audio controller outputs high definition audio and delivers higher fidelity than standard audio controllers.
