This Is Just A PCI To M.2 Converter. The Company Could Of Just Sent Me The Card, But Instead I Get Very Nice Instructions, Plus A Smaller Cover If You Have A Shorter Case. The Packaging And The Documentations Tell Me This Company Cares About Its Consumers...I Really Appreciate That. The Unit Works Great In My PC, I Am Using It To Hold The Drive I Am Transferring Off To While I Install On A Larger SSD.

Nice!

On an HP Z640 workstation will the StarTech PCI Express x4 to M.2 PCIe SSD adapter work as a boot drive with an NVMe SSD installed?
Asked by: David
If bios recognize it, yes it will work as boot drive. Otherwise no. This is why I changed my motherboard, processor and memory.

Bought a new Dell 8930 at the same time I purchased this I put a Samsung 970 EVO M.2. SSD in and installed it in a PCIEx4 slot. I can see and use the card but the Dell will not do a "Restart" I have to do a shut down and then cold boot to get the computer to work. If I just hit a restart (in a software upgrade for example) the Dell will not do the restart it freezes with no video and I have to do a hard shut down and a cold boot. I worked with Dell for days on the problem, I"ve talked with Samsung and with StarTech. If I pull the adapter with the drive the computer works perfect so it is something with the combination of the card and the SSD in the PCIE slot. Windows 10 pro is Up To Date, All Drivers are up to date and everything works except when I need to do a "Restart" it is a real pain when I have to do a major update I need to pull the card or the update does not get done. Does anyone else have the same Problem?

This is a sounding like a limitation on that PCI-e port. Now if its just to hold sample data, and not bootable it might be best to see if the bios has initialization of all formatted drives before start up disabled, and see if you have better results.
