Cactus V6 IIs Transceiver Overview

Able to support numerous brands and types of speedlights and flashes, the Cactus Wireless Flash Transceiver V6 IIs is a versatile and capable flash trigger that offers added functionality to make remote flash work easier. This model is able to support Sony flash systems with ease and is equipped with Sony's Multi Interface Shoe for direct compatibility with their latest cameras and flashes. It uses 2.4 GHz radio communication to trigger other units from up to 328' away. The main advantage of the V6 IIs is high-speed sync, of which two modes are offered. A normal setting uses a protocol depending on the camera system involved whereas the Power Sync can boost the flash for moments when Normal HSS is not powerful enough.

Users will be able to set up flashes in one of sixteen channels or three groups. Also, it has a Multi-Master setting that allows multiple shooters to trigger the same flashes, useful for demonstrations or events with a second shooter. By using flash profiles to register specific speedlights, the V6 IIs gains a few capabilities, such as an Absolute Power Mode, which calculates the equivalent power settings between multiple flashes. Additionally, it has a TTL pass-through hot shoe on the top and offers a 3.5mm sync terminal for plugging into strobes and other lights.

Cactus V6 IIs Transceiver Reviews

Constant Intermittent Flashing

By John

I bought 3 of them and one day, without any notice, I started getting a constant intermittent flash popping. I have them all set up the same way, and even tried to contact their company, which appears to be out of business. I bought these after having success with the V5 units, and although it took a little while to learn how to use, with all it's quirks, I was enjoying their successful run until like I said, one day, without warning, they just began malfunctioning. I used these in several different indoor locations, over a vast distance, even at my studio. Regardless of my location, they would pop... even if I was not pressing my shutter release buttons on my Canon R6 bodies. This is absolutely frustrating while shooting weddings, or corporate events, because most people are likely thinking that I am taking pictures each moment these are flashing, which also eats up my battery life as well. Unfortunately, there aren't many options, because of the shape that I need to use, to fit into my flash bracket. I can't have a unit that sticks up any higher, as I have already made a modification to barely get these to snuggly allow me to shoot a vertical shot. To say I am disappointed, is an understatement. Let alone the total ghosting I received from their Customer-no-service email. Booo..!

Base plastic broke in less than 3 months...

Plastic base can't handle weight of speed light cracked first time. Since I usually use it to trigger two other transceivers it usually sits solo on camera( no weight), but first time I put a speed light on top it cracked in less than 5 minutes. That's bad. I depend on this to trigger my flash for real estate every time out

question

Will this directly control a Sony F43M Flash (w/o a transceiver on the flash)? Or will I need a transceiver for both the camera and flash?
Asked by: Frank
You would need two of the V6 II units in order to trigger your flash. One unit would act as the transmitter on top of your camera while the other fits on the bottom of your flash as a receiver.
