    Marantz Professional PMD-300CP reviews

PMD-300CP Dual Cassette Deck with USB is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 26.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far so good ! I bought this to start archiving 40 years of recording on cassettes, so I'm not going to use the USB - I'm going directly into my recording computer. That said, this deck is taking over from an old Onkyo I salvaged from the closet of mysteries. This deck is remarkably cleaner (as it should be - the other deck was 20 years old) So far only one tape got chewed, but it was ancient. The doors are a little cheap feeling, but otherwise I'm very happy with the product. Where some tapes were wobbly and blurry in the old machine, they sound good to great in this one. If you're archiving, this deck is a great choice. No autorepeat or any real bells and whistles, although you can use metal tape settings (which I don't). Well worth the money, especially considering anything better from a brand name is twice the price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It works - Sort of! How do I go about being polite about this? It reminds me of a Cheap Plastic junker from Radio Shacks clone series. Yes it is actually built that cheap. HOWEVER! It works, it is low priced, it is built sturdily, and functions as designed. As a low priced Cassette unit it records fairly well. The Software is HORRIBLE! It records at such a high level (Hot) that minimum output still clips at times. And the software puts in breaks at random. For the price - it is great. Leave it at that. It does NOT Auto Reverse so you have to flip the tape by hand. Also the so-called Digital Meter only works on the Right Unit, and only goes up to 999 so it goes over multiple times per tape. Who designed this thing?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Only show in town Pros: records in stereo, usb connection to computer Cons: no headphone input, unreliable convertor softtware (download Audacity to convert analog files to digital files; it's free). This is the only new srereo cassette deck in the marketplace. The Pyle deck is 2-channel mono. I use it only to download old cassette tapes to my iMac for digital conversion. Do not use the Marantz software; download Audacity.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beware! NO AUTO REVERSE The best feature of this cassette deck is that it comes with a built in USB connection on the back of the unit, and the cord is included. The worst feature is that IT IS NOT auto-reverse, so you have to flip the cassette over to continue converting and it takes constant attention. Download Audacity for having options in the quality of your digital output file. The software that's included saves only WAV files. The output files sound as good as the input, and both waveforms are the same quality. So I took two stars off for not having the autoreverse feature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous way to revisit your favorite cassettes! Very handsome player matches all my older components and functions well. Great sound and channel separation. Loading and unloading cassettes a little awkward and doors don't seem to always want to close. Hope they will hold up. Other than that--all good.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I can live with it. Some minor shortcomings: 1.) Cassette doors are fussy about the position of the cassette upon insertion, they often won't close. 2.) Counter only works on the dubbing deck. 3.) Indicator level green bars - level 2 have stopped working. 4.) USB port is for output not input. 5,) Recording level for dubbing is the same as the original tape. Recording level control is only for external (RCA) inputs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This product works great! I used this to duplicate reel to reel tapes from and ancient Webcor machine. They were tapes of a music group I was i in the 60s. It worked fine, right up to speed and everything. Then I transferred them to my computer through the USB port, and using the free Audacity software and was able to make a cd from it. Great results. A headphone jack would have made it easier to monitor levels, and that would be my only negative comment.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from ok for the price There was a slight 60Hz hum when playing cassette tapes with a low recording level. You have to be very careful when loading a cassette tape. Otherwise, it does the job of being able to use the USB connection to digitize my older recordings of my son's youth and college orchestra performances. It does NOT have a headset jack. I worked around this by attaching a y-adapter to the RCA line out jacks on the back.
