ASUS GTX 1070 overview

  • 1Description

Based on NVIDIA's Pascal architecture and featuring a factory overclocked core, the ASUS Republic of Gamers Strix OC GeForce GTX 1070 Graphics Card provides major improvements in performance, memory bandwidth, and power efficiency over its predecessor, the high-performance Maxwell architecture. It also introduces innovative graphics features and technologies that redefine the computer as the platform for playing AAA games and taking full advantage of virtual reality via NVIDIA VRWorks.

The front panel of the card features a variety of outputs. There are two DisplayPort 1.4 outputs in addition to two HDMI 2.0b outputs and a DVI-D Dual-Link output. The GTX 1070 is not just about high-resolution gaming. Computationally intensive programs can utilize the GPU's 1920 cores to accelerate tasks using CUDA or other APIs.

For cooling, ASUS implemented their DirectCU III Cooler. It features Triple Wing-Blade fan design and two 10mm direct-GPU contact heat-pipes, which transports heat away from the GPU. 0 dB technology allows for the card to be completely silent when the GPU remains at a set temperature. This type of cooler is most useful in medium to large towers where airflow inside the case is not a concern. This GPU also has Aura RGB lighting with Modular Shroud so you can personalize your gaming style.

VRWorks Graphics includes a simultaneous multi-projection capability that renders natively to the unique dimensions of VR displays instead of traditional 2D monitors. It also renders geometry for the left and right eyes simultaneously in a single pass.

VRWorks Audio uses the NVIDIA OptiX ray-tracing engine to trace the path of sounds across an environment in real-time, fully reflecting the size, shape, and material of the virtual world.

NVIDIA PhysX for VR detects when a hand controller interacts with a virtual object, and enables the game engine to provide a physically accurate visual and haptic response. It also models the physical behavior of the virtual world around the user so that all interactions -- whether an explosion or a hand splashing through water -- behave as if in the real world.
With Ansel, gamers can compose the gameplay shots they want, pointing the camera in any direction and from any vantage point within a gaming world. They can capture screenshots at up to 32 times the screen resolution, and then zoom in where they choose without losing fidelity. With photo-filters, they can add effects in real-time before taking the shot. And they can capture 360-degree stereo photospheres for viewing in a VR headset or Google Cardboard.
SLI Ready
With a compatible motherboard and a connecting bracket, two or more NVIDIA GPUs of the same model can combine processing power using NVIDIA's Scalable Link Interface (SLI). How the cards work together can be customized to suit your preferences. Alternate frame rendering has each alternating card prepare the next frame, essentially multiplying the capabilities of a single card's maximum capable frame rate output. Each card in the configuration can also be used to improve anti-aliasing by being able to process an image in parallel with the other cards before filtering out jagged edges.

NVIDIA's SLI HB bridge doubles the available transfer bandwidth compared to the NVIDIA Maxwell architecture. Delivering smooth gameplay, it's an effective way to enjoy surround gaming and it's only compatible with the GeForce GTX 1080 graphics cards.

Note: The benefits of SLI will vary based on component configuration.
With CUDA, NVIDIA allows applications to hand off CPU-intensive tasks to the GPU. Your GPU is no longer just used for rendering graphics, but it can provide teraflops of floating point performance and accelerate application tasks, from real-time video rendering to fluid dynamics simulation. CUDA is used in many applications and games.
G-SYNC Ready
When used with a monitor that has G-SYNC hardware installed, the monitor's refresh rate will sync and lock with the graphics card's output frame rate. Establishing this sync removes tearing and stuttering which can result from conventional fixed screen refresh rates, especially important for gaming in stereoscopic 3D. An additional benefit of G-SYNC is reduced lag so gamers will benefit from the improved command response time as well.
NVIDIA GPU Boost 3.0
Boosts the card's clock speed in real-time based on the target temperature. If the card is running below the set target temperature, GPU Boost 3.0 will increase the clock speed to improve performance. The target temperature can be reset depending on your preference so you can have the card run more quietly for everyday tasks and older games, and run at full tilt during intense high-resolution gaming sequences.

    ASUS GTX 1070 reviews

Republic of Gamers Strix OC GeForce GTX 1070 Graphics Card is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beats the 780 =) Even though my old GTX 780 was running fine I was building a new system so I wanted one of the new NVIDIA GTX Pascal cards. I was between the 1070 and the 1080 but after considering that I would be gaming at 1080p and the significant higher cost of the 1080 I went with the 1070. Overall I am happy with the card. I tend to favor ASUS for their build quality and just like all the other ASUS products I have purchased in the past I've had zero issues with quality and/or performance. I've gained significant FPS (30-50 on average in Overwatch compared to the 780) and I can even make the card breathe with all the LED lighting effects. To be honest I didn't really need to upgrade from the 780 just yet but If you're in need (or 'want') of a new video card then this one is an excellent option.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not just a gaming board I bought this board as a setup for editing 4k videos for my Yuneec typhoon h pro. Teemed with an AOC 28 inch 4k monitor, this is an excellent choice to view and calibrate the cameras and total video system. There is no flicker, degradation of the video stream from memory dumps. Highly recommended as an excellent video system. Haven't tried gaming yet, not my intent. This is well priced system for serious work..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful - Terrific bang for the buck. Not immediately needing a 1080, and not willing to spend the price for one, I decided on the GeGorce GTX 1070. This is one of the fastest graphics cards, based on the 1070 architecture, and has not disappointed. I'm able to run Doom (2016) and Fallout 4 at all highest settings, and consistently average well above 60 FPS. For reference, my system is an Intel i7-6700K, with 16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM, and a 256GB SSD game drive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from upgraded from 650ti, Very Noticeable Diffrence in games. Upgraded my old Gaming rig from 650 ti to the 1070. I usually feel like I've wasted money on something that is a performance gain numerically but not noticeable to the human eye. This upgrade was noticeable and I do not regret it at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from How could you not want this GPU? Comes in a decent size box, which lots of foam. When you take out this beast you can see the power radianting off of it like it was the holy grail. This behemoth is the work horse of my machine and truly pushes the limits of the games I play. If you truly want the performance of a high end system that can even play vr without the extreme prices of the 1080ti this is the card for you. The rgb looks fantastic and is even controllable from the aura program. This was truly built for the enthusiast. Only question is do you buy 2 for the sli? #sweepstakes

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWSOME!!!!! I put this bad boy in last weekend. This was the perfect top off on my home built computer. It made The Witcher 3 really stand out. Install was easy. one thing though if you get one be sure you have the room in your case for it as it is a little bit of a long board. Very very happy I took the plunge on buying it!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Gaming Card! I bought this card to upgrade from my GTX 970 which, by the way, was a beast of its own. I gave my brother my gtx 970 and I bought this card. B&H, at the time, was the only store with one in stock...and with an excellent price as well! This card is a great step up from my gtx 970 and it maxes literally every game I throw at it. I have an AOC 144Hz G-Sync monitor (bought right here from B&H - what were the odds that I would end up right here to upgrade my graphics card!) and this GTX 1070 really allows me to fully get value from my monitor. In fast paced shooters like black ops III, this is INCREDIBLE! Every other modern game, I also max out with very high fps (at 1080p of course). Below I will list some. 1) Black Ops III - 155 - 185 fps (MAX) 2) The Witcher 3 - 100-109 fps (High Settings) 3) Fallout 4 - 86 - 93 fps (Ultra Settings) 4) Tomb Raider 2016 - 83 - 115 fps (Very High Settings) 5) Hitman 2016 - 64 - 85 fps (Ultra Settings) As you see from that small list...this card performs exceptionally well in ALL modern games - And I haven't even manually overclocked it as well. It seems to have plenty of headroom for overclocking. The 8Gb of VRAM is also a plus and it ensures the card is future proof. Temperatures are also great since I have never crossed 67 Degrees while Gaming. *Note: For those who are curious, my CPU is the Intel i7 3930k. Conclusion: This Card is truly the KING of the GTX 1070's - heck probably the king of the 10xx series due to its price for performance value. For anyone really wanting a nice upgrade to a card that will definitely max your games at 1080p and even at 2k or to even reach that 144fps gold status, this is the card for you! Tl;dr : Beast Card! Great Overclocker! Excellent Temperatures! Future Proof! Sexy Lights! - GET IT NOW!!!
