    Slik AL420S reviews

Lite AL-420S Tripod with LED Center Column Flashlight is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent - perfect for travelers When I bought it there was no reviews and I was a bit worried if this is strong enough but I am more than surprised how sturdy it is for the weight - and well built. Easy to fold and compact. Prefect for hiking and biking as I do many times. I have also no problem after a lot of salt water spray from the ocean. Sometimes I change the head - looks a bit funny on this delicate tripod but with 2 legs out it even handles a heavy tele lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A little wobbly, but still good for travel I bought this tripod for travelling and hiking. It is small enough to fit inside the top section of the Tenba daypack. It holds my Fuji X-T1 and larger Fuji lenses fine with the top two leg sections extended, but is a little wobbly when the lowest leg section is also extended. It's also not very tall, which I am fine with. It's a trade-off for having a tripod which is light enough and small enough to carry in a daypack. If you want a taller, rock-solid tripod, this isn't the one for you. If you want something small and light for hiking, this might be the tripod for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect hikingg tripod? I think the pictures do not pay justice to just how small it is. When I saw the box from B&H, I thought they forgot to put it into the parcel. When I saw the tripod's box, I thought that it was really small. When I opened the box, I thought that I bought tripod legs without the head. But no, no, no. It is a full tripod and it is really small. Granted I had it only for an hour now, but it looks well built; and more importantly, it handles 5D with 17-40L well (weight of the combo should be 3.5 lbs). At the base height (all legs tucked in) the camera feels rock solid, at the full height it is of course little wobbly, however, that is expected I guess for such heavy camera combo. I intend to use it at roughly 0-50 % of its full height, so it is not a big deal for me, and I would say that if needed, even at 100 % height it should be fine with wire trigger and mirror lock up. If I remember, I will update the review later after I take it to the hiking trail, which is why I bought it in a first place. I just needed something little better to aim my camera than my wallet and stones. And one thing that I feel needs to be pointed out - when the tripod is all folded down, it is really compact. I had wanted to buy a Manfrotto head but it would probably lose lots of its portability, so I won't, for now, I will just change quick release plates before going hiking. And I got rid off the flashlight altogether (it can be unmounted and Silk includes second tube plug for those who want to do so).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for my needs Compact, light, and solidly built. Easy to set up and fold back down. Very sturdy with my Fuji X-T2 on it. Great travel tripod.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good choice for light weight backpacking/travel I bought this as a replacement for a Cullmann/Bogen tripod I'd been using for 30 years that weighed 600 grams. This is heavier, but seems like the best available on the current market. It's biggest drawback so far is height, which is about 4 feet maximum (my old tripod was about 5 feet, which was a much more reasonable approximation of eye-height views). That's about it for bad points, except to note that the LED flashlight is pretty much useless and you can save about 40g by getting rid of it. Now for the good stuff: build quality is excellent. Legs are easily adjustable in length and throughout the range of movement, which is 180 degrees, which means that to invert the shaft (often handy in macrophotography), you just flip the legs instead of having to remove and reinsert the center pillar. The ball-and-socket head is fine for still photography, locks firmly into position with little effort, and has a well-designed quick release plate. Fully collapsed, the tripod is quite compact, and comes with a nice carry bag that will save it from getting dinged up for a while. I've used it with outfit weights up to about 800g so far and it seems quite stable, has very little tendency to shake.
