Zhiyun-Tech Crane v2 overview

  • 1Description

The Zhiyun-Tech Crane v2 is a 3-axis handheld gimbal stabilizer offering 360° rotation along all three axes. It offers button-powered continuous rotation along the pan axis, and manual non-stop circular rotation along the tilt and roll axes.

The Crane is designed for DSLR and mirrorless cameras weighing up to 3.9 lb, such as the Sony a7S and Panasonic GH4, and includes an attachable lens support for long lenses. The Crane features three 32-bit MCUs (motor control units) running in parallel at 4000 Hz, and has a stepless joystick at your fingertips that allows switching between different modes. Cameras attach by securing a simple thumbscrew without any tools, and full setup can be achieved within a minute.

A 1/4"-20 threaded mounting hole on the bottom also allows use with monopods and various other support equipment. The Crane can also be controlled wirelessly from an iOS/Android app (available from Zhiyun-Tech) via a built-in Bluetooth connection to your phone. The Crane runs on and comes with two 26500 batteries which feature a 12- to 18-hour runtime.

Note: The Crane v2 is the original Crane updated with a higher payload (3.9 lb) and higher-capacity batteries (12-18 hours).

    Zhiyun-Tech Crane v2 reviews

Crane v2 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 214.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Gimbals yield great results, but this isn't a great gimbal Video always looks better when stabilized, so it's no wonder many rave about this gimbal. It made their work look buttery smooth and pro! But...is it a good gimbal? Not really. - Camera is positioned in line with roll axis, making it impossible to look at the camera's rear screen while shooting - Instructions are vague and poorly translated - App is clunky - The joystick lacks a re-centering feature, common with other gimbals - The pan and tilt speeds are not controllable, and are too quick for smooth shots - There's no way to know which mode gimbal is in - Barely holds a standard DSLR--many angle impossible to achieve

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this with my whole heart!!! So I've been looking for an 3 axis gimbal for the past few month and couldn't decide. I finally came across the Crane and it was love at first site. I looked at all kinds of youtube video reviews which made me want it more and more. When I finally bought it I took it out before even leaving B&H. I was surprised how easy it was to balance it before even using it. I first put my a6000 on it and tested it out then my canon 70d. The modes are awesome and easy to change and the panning and tilting are as smooth as a babies bottom. I really don't have anything bad to say coming from a glide cam. LOVE THIS PRODUCT!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Who engineered the case??? Nice piece of equipment, with a nice case. Takes several minutes to get balanced and then does a nice job of stabilizing my new GH5. I installed a quick release on the base in order to save rebalancing time when the camera is installed on the gimbal. So far, so good. When I went to put the gimbal back in the nice case, it wouldn't fit. The arms had to be moved from the GH5 balance points in order to get the gimbal back into the case! Plan on several minutes of rebalancing every time you remove the gimbal from the case....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Every Filmmaker Has to Have One of These! This is the perfect gimbal for any filmmaker or wedding videographer. It is perfect for run and gun type shoots. I like to be ready and on my feet for any task. This gimbal allows me ready for anything. It's size lets me be discrete and a non distraction during wedding shoots. I don't need a crazy two handed gimbal or even a body attached steady cam to get the smooth glide look. If you are having trouble deciding on which gimbal to buy, I highly suggest this. It's so much cheaper than the high end gimbals yet it has the same exact high end results! Easy set up and easy to use. This is a MUST BUY FOR FILMMAKERS and WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHERS!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Coming from Glidecam My Glidecam has been pretty much attached to my arm for the past 6 years. I never thought any of these 3-axis gimbals were worth the price and have always been a fan of the more natural motion I get out of a well balanced Glidecam. That being said, there are certain shots that could use a motorized gimbal. I'm not retiring my Glidecam any time soon and I have little to compare the crane too, but after a few days of testing, I'm definitely liking it. It's very easy to set up and start using. And if you're coming from a different type of stabilization tool, you should already be familiar with how to walk/run to achieve consistent and smooth shots. I took it for a 15 minute jog and a bunch of wind sprints. I love how it held up. If you're considering a gimbal but don't want to drop a grand or more, this former skeptic gives this item a big thumbs up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have for any videographer As my videography business has grown, I have had to upgrade my equipment to suit clients demands. I was able to get by with my Osmo for some time, but now needed to use my Panasonic or Canon for stabilized shots. I sold my Osmo and bought the Zhiyun Crane. This thing is incredible. I primarily use my Lumix G7 with 12-35mm f/2.8 lens on it. I put a quick release plate on, and have it set to be used with the screen flipped out. I can use this for slider shots, reveal shots, dolly shots, and stabile motion shots. With the quick release plate on, I can put my camera on the crane, turn on the crane and camera, and be rolling video in about 15-20 seconds. Absolutely incredible tool, a must have for any videographer!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent! Very, very surprised! For the price, I have not expecting allot. However, the build quality excellent. It's very well thought out and constructed very will. Honestly, I'd place it very close to DJI quality. The motors are large and smooth. I had it perfectly balanced in about 8 minutes and it's all tool less. The bluetooth app connected fast and worked as it should. The app is a little bland but it has everything you need. It operates smoothly in all three axis's. Never heard of this company before but I think they are going places. If they keep building products like this, they could be the next DJI. Really great bang for the buck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Serious Rival for Ronin So here's the scoop. I purchased the ronin-m a month ago and within the first week I realized that it's overkill for a run-and-gun situation so I sold it. I got instead the Zhiyun Crane with which I immediately fell in love with for the ease of use, balancing and performance, rivaling the capabilities of the Ronin. Yes, the maximum weight it can carry is 1200 grams but with a lightweight camera and lens combination like my Sony a6500 this is a killer combination for travel, or really any sort of situation when you need speed and not much weight. Ah - and I can balance this thing in 37 seconds (without a mounting plate!).
