Pentax CA-3 Reviews

Great portable accessory for better photos

Capture the moment you want instantly. Works flawlessly if you do a free update on the Theta's firmware (read the instructions online, any version since July 2016). The release is instant-on/instant off and small enough to attach to a monopod/selfie-stick for one-hand operation. A tripod/stick mount improves output from this device- hand-held photos are possible but contain a poorly spliced version of your hand at close range. Sure, in a pinch, you could connect to the Theta over wifi to trigger the shutter & change settings, but it's a super hassle that takes up to a minute and drains 5% of your phone's battery every time. No sensible professional photographer would interact with their camera 100% of the time over a wifi app. The remote shutter is much better for short-range connections (honestly- most of your photos with a 360-cam). Minor quibble: at $40, this should be bundled with at least one cheap micro-USB cable. Or bundled with a selfie-stick it could be removed from.

Does not work with the Ricoh Theta S

I purchased this simply because it was listed as an available option when purchasing the Ricoh Theta S. It does not work with it whatsoever. Furthermore for anyone not familiar with the Theta, you have the option of either pressing the button to take a photo (or start video), or using the app on your phone. Using the app negates the need for a shutter release even if this product were to work. This shutter release does not work with the Theta S. I gave it 2 stars because I had to give it some star rating in order to post the review. Off the basis of its relatively cheap plastically feel I can say that even if it were to work it is an overpriced item compared to other shutter releases.

Can the Ricoh USB cable, supplied with the Ricoh Theta S, be extended with a standard USB extension cable to reach the Ricoh CA-3 remote shutter switch? I would like to hold the Theta S high overhead for some photos.
Asked by: Anonymous
It appears that the large Type-A USB male plug could be extended with a female-to-male Type-A USB extender allowing you to plug it into this remote and extend the cable provided.
