ASUS G752VS Overview

  • 1Description

The ASUS 17.3" Republic of Gamers G752VS delivers fast gaming performance in a desktop-replacement notebook that features an Intel Core i7-6820HK processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 graphics. This combination of performance is suitable for running everyday productivity tasks, gaming on-the-go, and VR applications. Moreover, ASUS has outfitted the G752VS with a 3D Vapor chamber and a separate GPU and CPU dual fan design so you may overclock the CPU, GPU, and 64GB of DDR4 memory.

The dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card comes armed with 8GB of GDDR5 video memory and Pascal architecture to render 3D textures in real time as well as enable ultra-high settings within games. Full-HD visuals are delivered to the 17.3" display and your monitors, utilizing the notebook's mini-DisplayPort, HDMI, and Thunderbolt 3 outputs. The built-in 17.3" screen has 178° viewing angles as well as G-Sync technology that synchronizes the display's refresh rates to the GPU, eliminating screen tearing and minimizing display stutter and input lag.

ASUS has outfitted the ROG G752VS with four SO-DIMM slots that are populated with four 16GB DDR4 memory modules, which operate at 2400 MHz speeds. For long-term storage, this notebook sports a 1TB 7200 rpm hard drive for storing photos, videos, and other digital content as well as a 512GB SSD that connects via an NVMe PCIe x4 interface, providing four times faster transfer speeds than a SATA-based SSD. Windows 10 Pro is installed on the SSD so the notebook can boot quickly. In addition, the notebook has a built-in card reader that supports SD, SDHC, and SDXC memory cards.

The G752VS notebook connects to your external storage drives, printers, and other devices using its four USB 3.0 ports as well as a single USB 3.1 Type-C port with 10 Gb/s speeds. It comes with headphone and speaker jacks along with integrated speakers and one subwoofer to immerse you in sounds. Capturing your celebration after you win a tournament can be accomplished with the integrated 1.2MP webcam and dual-array microphone, which is also tuned for Microsoft's Cortana. This notebook can access the Internet wirelessly via 802.11ac Wi-Fi or reliably using a wired Gigabit Ethernet connection. Other notable features include a back-lit keyboard, DVD burner, and Bluetooth 4.0.

Quad-Core Skylake Intel Core i7 Performance
This notebook features a quad-core 6th generation 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7-6820HK processor, with 8MB of L3 cache. Intel has designed the Skylake CPU to use even less energy than the previous processor to help you finish the workday without recharging the battery. With Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0, the maximum clock rate this processor can achieve is 3.6 GHz. Having four cores also allows the notebook to run multiple programs at the same time without slowing down the computer.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX Graphics
Equipped with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 with 8GB of GDDR5 VRAM, the ROG G752VS can handle demanding games in high definition. With it, you'll be able to enable additional graphical settings, crank up in-game visual options, as well as connect additional monitors for an enhanced multitasking experience.
NVIDIA G-Sync Technology
NVIDIA G-Sync Technology syncs the display's refresh rate with the graphics card's frame rate output to reduce tearing and stuttering, which can result from conventional fixed screen refresh rates. Additionally, it reduces lag so gamers can enjoy an improved response time.
Thunderbolt 3
Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes the reversible USB Type-C connector. Doubling the speed of its predecessor, Thunderbolt 3 features a maximum throughput of 40 Gb/s when used with compatible devices. The connector also transmits data via USB 3.1 at up to 10 Gb/s, and dual-bandwidth DisplayPort 1.2 allows you to connect up to two 4K displays simultaneously. Additionally, you can daisy chain up to six devices from a single Thunderbolt 3 port.
Dedicated Cooling
The ROG G752VS features dedicated cooling modules for the CPU and GPU to ensure it stays cool and operational. Hot air is exhausted through the rear vent for comfortable gaming sessions. It also has a unique thermal design that directs dust away from internal components.
Backlit Gaming Keyboard
With a backlit keyboard, you'll be able to game wherever you want, even in dimly lit rooms. It features anti-ghosting and 30-key rollover that ensures your key presses are instantaneously and accurately recognized. Furthermore, dedicated macro keys give you the upper hand in all types of games.

Windows 10 Pro

Start Menu
After its hiatus in Windows 8, the Start Menu has returned. Utilizing a combination of the traditional menu system and Windows 8's Live Tiles, the improved Start Menu gives you more information at a glance, showing notification information alongside your applications and other pinned items.
Cortana
Microsoft's digital personal assistant, Cortana can answer your questions with information gleaned from both your device and the internet at large. You can type or even talk with her, if your system has a microphone. Using her Laptop, Cortana keeps track of your needs and wants, and she learns over time to improve her information gathering skills.
Microsoft Edge
After nearly 20 years, Microsoft has finally replaced its Internet Explorer web browser. With Microsoft Edge, users can write directly on web pages and share notes with friends and colleagues. It also improves the online reading experience by adding a distraction-free mode and read-it-later functionality. Edge also has built-in Cortana integration; you can have her help you find a restaurant, make a reservation, and pull up directions without leaving your browser.
Windows Store
For Windows 10, Microsoft has unified the Windows Store. Now, apps for PCs, tablets, and phones will all be accessible from one place. And with support for Universal Apps, one version of an app can work across all your compatible devices automatically.
Windows Continuum
Windows 10 was designed for a variety of screen sizes and input styles, and with its Continuum feature, it automatically adapts to fit your needs. A Windows 10 tablet on its own requires a touch-centric approach, but attaching a mouse and keyboard will shift everything to a more traditional interface. You can even attach an external monitor to your Windows 10 phone for a near-desktop experience. But it's not just the operating system; Windows Universal Apps take advantage of Continuum as well.
Xbox on Windows 10
Gaming is a big focus of Windows 10. Xbox integration allows for PC players to match up against Xbox One players on supported games, and if you have an Xbox One, you can even stream compatible titles to your PC. Native support for recording with the new Game DVR feature makes it easy to capture and share your gameplay. The new DirectX12 takes better advantage of multi-core processors, giving games a performance boost, even on older hardware. Windows 10 also features native support for virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.
Windows 10 Pro
The Pro version of Windows 10 includes all of the features of Windows 10 Home plus many designed specifically for businesses users, including Hyper-V virtualization, BitLocker disk encryption, and remote desktop access. Devices will also be able to join domains and the Azure Active Directory, and they can even access a specialized version of the Windows Store featuring custom, company-specific applications.

    ASUS G752VS Reviews

17.3" Republic of Gamers G752VS Series Laptop (Overclock Edition) is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Throw anything at it I am currently using this laptop as a gaming platform and I can tell you for sure that I can run any latest games you throw at it. The boot up time is phenomenal with the SSD and the pre-installed software weren't completely unnecessary. They left out a huge space between the screen and the main unit and the directional keypads were pushed down a bit more compared to older models but this is just aestethic/ergonomic issue. Overall great laptop with all the power you need while still being easily portable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best in it's class! Got this laptop few weeks ago and I was very excited. I must say it's above my expectations, it looks amazing and you can see and feel the premium materials it's made from. I had 0 issues setting the OS up with my games, there is no game I can't run at max/ultra settings. I have no cons for this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Hardware, Asus software needs some work. I purchased two of these for Christmas. One went back to B&H after eight days because it died a horrible death when we were trying to use the ROG software to turn off the light bar - fans running at full speed, hot air coming out of the vents, light bar on back of the cover wouldn't turn off, black screen - and it wouldn't turn off. I had to let it kill the battery before boxing it up for shipment. Confirmed the death with both Asus and B&H tech support before sending it back for an exchange. The replacement machine for the first one is also working flawlessly, processing large photo files in Photoshop. The second laptop is working fine now. BUT - after initial setup, I went into the ROG Gaming Center software to look around and once again try to turn off the light bar, and after that it started locking up, giving random software errors in the event logs and on screen messages from the ROG Gaming Center that a couple of things (Turbo Processor Mode and ROG settings?) were out of synch, requiring a reboot. This machine has been reset to factory spec, software reloaded, and I haven't opened any of the Asus supplied software. It is working like a champ, boots to ready to work in 11 seconds. It is rendering videos almost twice as fast as my previous Asus G75. These machines have some great features. In particular, I am enthusiastic about being able to cast videos and photos to my Samsung 4K television wirelessly. The HDMI cable connections were questionable with the old computers. The red keyboard backlights took some getting used to. And I wish there was a BIOS switch for the light bar on the backside of the cover. While the Asus software needs work, I like the free license for TeamViewer for controlling other computers on my network. These are my third generation of Asus G7x computers (G74, G75, G752) in the past 10 years, by far the fastest, but also the most troublesome out of the box.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do Not Buy for Virtual Reality To start off, again, the service from B and H is outstanding! They take everything back and help their customers like they did with me on this return. Back to the Asus, its not for Virtual Reality. I used the Vive VR and when used with this Asus, i got many error messages and issues that could not be resolved. There apparently is an issue with the HDMI port of the video card and when my IT guy searched google to find out problem, the problem is common to Asus. I thought maybe it was just a defect in my computer but it is not that. So basically you will go crazy trying to figure out how to configure your VR system with this laptop to make it work. My IT guy set it up and the messages and ready status continue to stay red as not ready AT times he made adjustments to settings and we would be able to get things to work but only for a short time. There is nothing wrong with my Vive VR either bc i am using it now without any problems on the MSI laptop. We contacted ASUS support during the problem and they were less than useless and even said to return the laptop. The setup was all done by my IT guy who knows everything about this stuff, bc i dont. He told me there is clearly an issue with this computer and VR. The MSI i am using now is perfect, it seems fast and works great. IT takes seconds to get my VR system up and running. i purchases the MSI 17.3 GT73VR Titan Pro Notebook so i would recommend that or something better. My IT guys explained that the dual video card will not provide any noticeable difference. To top everything off, i then was guided through how to reset the settings by the ASUS support line, to factory default settings so that none of my personal information remained on the laptop. Even that process did not go through smoothly and the computer froze up and i was not able to turn it back on. My IT guy tried to get the computer working but only was able to see safe mode, never the home screen. Fortunately, B H took it back.
