Canon MB5120 Reviews

Good for the 4 years that it lasted

Inkjet printers are for people that use their printers regularly. Those who go weeks or months between printing, need laser printers. This printer lasted less than 4 years, because of my infrequent use, I only took off 2 stars instead of 3. This printer typically goes weeks between being turned on, which causes clogs in inkjet. Lesson learned. Took another star off because of design flaw: You can only change ink tanks, when the printer thinks a particular tank is empty. Should be able replace an ink tank at any time, for any reason. Positives: * - Previous printer was an HP6840 inkjet, and this one was much faster. * - Duplex printing great; will never go back to a printer without it. * - Document printing was sharp. Fax'ed & Copied once, when I got the printer. But never used either after confirming that they worked. Used the scanning feature a few times, but most of the time, it was easier to use a camera or the iPad. Photo printing was so-so. Only did it when I needed a Google Earth map of a park. Came out on the dark side & soaked the paper. Used the USB connection, instead of the WiFi. The USB cable was plugged into a switch, so both my home & work computers could share the printer. Cost: In 4 years, 60% of the printing cost was for ink tanks, while the other 40% was the cost of the printer. Bottom Line: Capable printer, for those that plan to print regularly.

A big machine that can handle most jobs easily

This is a full service printer/scanner/fax machine with a large footprint. Make sure you have the desk space for this machine. A big plus, it is duplex which saves a lot of time and paper and it is not loud. The quality is good and it is very fast. The prints, documents and photos, are crisp. Thus far I haven't used it daily but when I have, I have printed a lot of documents and many images. So far, I am still working on the ink that came with the machine. I am still perplexed at how to copy/scan from my computer (I'm not quite sure if or where to find or download desktop icon like I had with my former Brother machine) but printing is easy with the downloaded software. Good for a small office or at home consumer. The price was fair and B&H was very quick with shipping.

How is this MB5120 different from the MB5420?
Asked by: David
I own both. The MB5420 has two separate paper trays, the MB5120 has only one. They have the same footprint, but of course with the extra paper tray, the 5420 is taller. Everything else is the same...same inks, etc..
