Fujifilm 50-140mm f/2.8 overview

  • 1Description

Combining a pair of optics to extend your reach, the Fujifilm XF 50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Lens with 2x Teleconverter Kit from B&H bundles the versatile portrait-length-to-tele zoom with a dedicated teleconverter to provide an impressive 152-426mm equivalent focal length range.

  • Fujifilm XF 50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Lens

A telephoto zoom designed for use in trying conditions, Fujifilm's XF 50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Lens is a weather-sealed optic spanning the popular 76-213mm equivalent focal length range and featuring a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture. Built for Fujifilm X-mount mirrorless digital cameras, this fast zoom further extends itself through the incorporation of a sophisticated lens design, highly effective optical image stabilization system, and a Triple Linear Motor AF system for refined performance.

Comprised of 23 elements in 16 groups, the optical design incorporates five extra-low dispersion (ED) elements and one Super ED element to markedly reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing throughout the zoom range. Additionally, a Nano-GI coating has also been applied to elements to alter the refractive index in between elements to minimize surface reflections and prevent lens flare and ghosting. This lens also sees the incorporation of 20 distinct weather seals across the barrel to render it both moisture and dust-sealed for use in inclement conditions as low as 14°F. An inner focusing and inner zoom design further help to prevent dust from entering the lens while also benefiting overall handling.

Providing a 76-213mm equivalent focal length range, this telephoto zoom lens is ideal for working with distant subjects and portraiture applications.
Constant f/2.8 maximum aperture enables consistent performance throughout the zoom range and excels when working in difficult lighting conditions.
The 23-element-in-16-group design includes five extra-low dispersion elements and one Super extra-low dispersion element to minimize chromatic aberrations and distortions throughout the zoom range.
A Nano-GI (Gradient Index) coating has been applied to lens elements and alters the refractive index between the glass and air in order to better suppress lens flare and ghosting for diagonal incident light.
An HT-EBC (High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating) coating has been applied to the entire surface of each element to for controlling ghosting and flare for greater image clarity.
Complemented by an enhanced gyro sensor and unique series of algorithms, the optical stabilization system minimizes the appearance of camera shake to enable sharper imaging when working with longer focal lengths or slower shutter speeds.
A Triple Linear Motor autofocus system delivers smooth, near-silent performance that is especially beneficial to video applications and when working in noise-sensitive areas.
A tripod collar is included for well-balanced mounting and shooting when working from a tripod or monopod.
An inner focusing and inner zooming design maintains the overall lens length during operation for quicker performance and greater resistance to dust or moisture from entering the lens. Additionally, 20 distinct seals are placed across the lens barrel to render it weather-resistant and capable of functioning in temperatures as low as 14°F.
Seven rounded diaphragm blades contribute to a pleasing out-of-focus quality to benefit the use of selective focus and shallow depth of field techniques.
When used with an X-series camera that features a Lens Modulation Optimizer (LMO) function, the lens' performance is enhanced to deliver consistent illumination and sharpness throughout the aperture range.

  • Fujifilm XF 2x TC WR Teleconverter

Double the reach of your XF 50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR and XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR lenses with the XF 2x TC WR Teleconverter from Fujifilm. The X mount converter magnifies the image by 2x and retains full communication between the lens and body; enabling metering, autofocus, and image stabilization as well as the transmission of Exif data. Additionally, the teleconverter is designed to maintain the weather resistance of the entire Fujifilm system with a sealed construction that reduces the chances of dust, water, or even the cold from affecting performance.

    Features
    • 2x teleconverter doubles the reach of select X-mount lenses with a two-stop loss in exposure.
    • Advanced design maintains the original quality of lenses while fully supporting exposure metering and image stabilization capabilities.
    • Weather-resistant design for use in adverse conditions and temperatures as low as 14°F.

Fujifilm 50-140mm f/2.8 reviews

XF 50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Lens with 2x Teleconverter Kit is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gets the Job Done The XF 50-140mm f/2.8 is a top quality lens that balances well on the X-T1 with the battery grip attached. Coming from a DSLR, I find the lens remarkably light and easy to carry. I had no problem shooting a couple hour event, but I would not recommend it for casual photography as Fuji has smaller, lighter options. Get this lens if you need tack sharp performance in a rugged, weather sealed package. My biggest complaint about the lens is the fact that the humming sound from the OIS doesn't go away when the OIS is turned off. For use in quite venues, like plays or concerts, this is a concern. Curiously, the humming does stop when the image preview button is pressed. Paired with the 2x, the lens becomes a 100-280mm f/5.6 which gives useful extra reach for well lit field sports. In my opinion, the results shot wide open are a bit on the soft side, though still usable, and exhibit notable amounts of lateral chromatic aberration. The loss in IQ is less than one would get from cropping however, and stopping down to f/8.0 gains back most of the sharpness. AF-C with zone focusing on the X-T1 is reasonably quick and responsive when using the 2x, but initial lock-on and tracking are not as quick as without the TC. If cost isn't an issue though, get the XF 100-400mm f/3.5-5.6 instead.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet Lens! Great lens! I have to say this lens is almost or as as sharp as a prime, I may hold off getting the 90mm prime. The build quality is exceptional! A 2.8 fixed aperature, IS and weather resistant to boot, every bit as good as the big two! Got the 2xTeleconverter with it and wow, love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As always, fuji makes great lenses! The lens is super fast focussing with both of my cameras xt-1 and xpro-2, super sharp images, great ois, great build quality. For the extender as it tends to focus quite slower, you have to be good at tracking your subject. Overall it is on par imo with canon 70-200 f2.8L II is usm witch I used for about 2 years (with 5DIII) in therms of image quality (color accuracy, fringing, distortion), focus speed, and resolution. I came to conclusion that the ois is even better than the canon counterpart.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Lens Super Optics It's a must-have lens for the Fujifilm X-Pro2 - especially with its light gathering 2.8 aperture. I carry it in my bag along with the super sharp Fujifilm XF 16-55 Zoom.
