Shure A412MWS Reviews
It looks nice but only a modest improvement

I was hoping this would eliminate or severely reduce the overloading of the gooseneck mic when people speak too close into it but this was only a modest improvement (if any) over the foam windscreen that the mic came with. Perhaps it works better as far as rejecting actual noise from wind outdoors. However, it looks good and it comes with the tiny wrench key to fasten it onto the mic. I wish they had some sort of covering that could go over this to further reduce mic overloading by people speaking too close.. but they do not seem to make one

Does anyone happen to know a good additional windscreen to use on top of this for outdoor applications etc?
A fluffy windscreen such as BH #SHAMV88FUR could be used with the Shure A412MWS.

what size is the allen wrench for that tiny set screw? I have about 50 of these windscreens and I'm very satisfied with their effectiveness except for that set screw
Per a Shure representative, the hex key required is a #2 .9mm or .035".

Does anyone have a good suggestion of an additional windscreen to use on top of this? For outdoor applications etc?
For a furry windshield to go on top of the Shure A412MWS Metal Windscreen when working outdoors, you may be able to use the K-Tek KR-50-70 Fur Windsock for Ball-Type Handheld Microphones (B&H # KTKR5070), or you can make your own fur windshield using the Bubblebee Industries The Piece-A-Fur Wind Protection - Black (B&H # BUBBIPAFBK), which is a 14.1 x 4.3" piece of imitation fur that you can cut and sew to fit over the metal windscreen. If you are using the Shure MX412 and MX418 Gooseneck Microphones and working indoors or outdoors with low wind, you can use the Shure RK412WS Windscreens - Set of 4 (B&H # SHRK412WS) as standard foam windscreens instead of the Shure A412MWS Locking Metal Windscreen.
