The PCR-65 from Polsen is a cardioid condenser microphone designed for full-range reproduction of vocals and instruments in podcasts, recording studios, and broadcast environments. Its side-address, pressure-gradient design utilizes a large 1" diaphragm with a cardioid polar pattern, which minimizes the pickup of off-axis sounds and impedes feedback. The microphone boasts a 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response, allowing it to accurately transduce the frequencies of a variety of sounds. Its high sensitivity and 125 dB maximum SPL ensure that you can use it on quiet or loud sources, from whispered vocals to pounding drums.

The PCR-65 has a sturdy, metal housing with an alloy finish. The supplied custom shockmount decouples the mic from vibrations and rumble that would otherwise transfer from the floor to the mic. Use the desktop tripod stand for convenient tabletop placement during interviews and podcasts. Phantom power (12 to 52 VDC) is required.

Cardioid Capsule
The 1" capsule's cardioid polar pattern is least sensitive to sound behind the microphone, allowing better rejection of room reflections, which is ideal for capturing vocals and close-miked instruments with greater clarity
Full-Range Frequency Response
The 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response is sufficiently wide to deliver a warm, natural sound for a variety of sources, from the low drone of a double bass to the high shimmer of cymbals to the powerful presence of a vocal
High Sensitivity and Maximum SPL
The microphone's high sensitivity allows it to be used on quiet sources such as a soft voice, without extreme gain, and its high maximum SPL of 125 dB ensures that it can handle loud sounds such as a drum, without distortion
Sturdy and Durable
Metal construction with an alloy finish enables the mic to hold up to the demands of studio and stage environments
The supplied shockmount, which decreases pickup of rumble and vibrations, can be mounted on a standard mic stand or the included desktop tripod

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Sound for the Money I've been extremely impressed by the sound quality coming out of this $80 microphone. I use it when I need to record a high-quality voice-over, but not so high quality that I need to go to an actual recording studio. The setup couldn't be simpler. The mic comes with a desktop tripod/shockmount, which I place on a table in my office. I plug the mic directly into my Tascam DR-40 audio recorder, which supplies the phantom power. I position myself about six inches from the mic, hit record, and begin talking. That's it. My office isn't a perfect acoustic space, but it's not bad, and the recordings coming from this mic sound rich and upfront. (You really can't beat a large diaphragm condenser for voice-overs.) When I bring the files into my audio program, there's no need to do much EQing; it's pretty much already dialed in to that crisp sound I like. I just add a little compression and the sample is ready to go. I'm loving the convenience of this setup for a quick voice-over, and the quality of the end result is really high considering the price point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much better than I expected This mic is impressive. I purchased this with a Polsen usb audio interface and spent today doing some experimentation with it. I started a vocal recording using my Amazon Echo as a source and basically did a cover of a favorite song. When I went to do the playback, I was completely blown away by the amount of secondary rejection this mic is capable of. The Amazon Echo was actually fairly loud, but it wasn't present in the final recording (there is some of it in the final output, but it is so much attenuated, you'd have to find a silent passage to hear it). If you are doing vocals without using headphones, this is a great choice. The tone and response of the microphone are great - I could not tell this wasn't a much more expensive piece of gear. I also tested handling noise and the shock mount is very effective at dampening coupled noises. The only negative I can give here is that the desktop stand is not that great. I spent yesterday in the shop making a new desktpp stand that doesn't tip over if you look at it funny. The stand it comes with is poorly balanced, so that will be your first upgrade.
