Rolls HRS84 Overview

The Rolls HRS84 FM Digital Tuner features balanced XLR outputs, unbalanced RCA outputs, and a dedicated headphone output on the front. The tuner can operate in mono or stereo mode via front-panel switch.

The front panel also offers level +/- and a mute/memory search button. When pressed for 2 seconds, the HRS84 scans the airwaves for radio stations and assigns them to a memory location. Use the memory up/down to cycle between radio stations.

A 3.5mm line input is also available to connect any line source device. Once inserted, the line input disconnects the FM tuner from the XLR, RCA, and headphone output. The rear panel includes a 75-ohm FM antennae input (antennae sold separately). Up to two HRS84s can be rackmounted in a standard 1 RU rack space, the Rolls URT5 (Universal Rack Tray), or the RMS270 Rack Module System. The HRS84 ships with a power supply.

I bought this to monitor the audio feed coming from my Rolls FM Transmitter that I use to broadcast music for my Christmas light display. it works as expected, I knocked one star because I wish they would of provided a basic antenna for it.

No dials and difficult to read

The sensitivity and sound from this little unit are fine BUT no dial. You must scan up or down through 21 presets. No control over presets - you get what it wants and you cannot delete unwanted stations. More than 21 stations in your area - too bad. The buttons to change stations are the size of a pinhead. The small screen can only be read straight on. If it not at eye level be prepared to stoop to read it. It stays illuminated only for a few seconds. No on/off switch. Powered by 16 volt (??) unusual transformer/plug.

If the power goes out, does this unit remember the frequency that was previously selected?
Asked by: Jake
I have several of these tuners used for monitoring stations for the Emergency Alert System. It has been my experience that in every instance they have lost power for an extended period time, each time when powered back up, they always return the same frequency they were tuned to before losing power.
