    Epson 5040UB reviews

PowerLite Home Cinema 5040UB Full HD 3LCD Projector is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent replacement for my 11 year old 720P projector I replaced my old Panasonic AE-900U projector with the Epson 5040UB. Technology has come a long way in 11 years. First, black objects were displayed as dark grey on my old Panasonic. The Epson displays a much darker black color. I must admit, on my 108 inch screen, there is only a slight image sharpness improvement when using 1080 vs. 720. The extra light output and vibrant colors are superior on the Epson. I've not tried running a 4k signal yet so I can't comment on it. The only issue I've seen with this new project is when watching a football game. When images are large (a full person), the picture is exceptional. When there are small images of players, like a zoom out of the two teams on the field, I see ghosting around the individual players. I suspect (but not sure) the ghosting my be a product of the low grade 25 foot HDMI cable I have running to the projector. Recommendation, you may want to get a quality HDMI cable with good shielding. This projector is 3 times heavier than my old projector. I had to modify my ceiling mount to accommodate the extra weight. Setup is fast and easy. Yes most homeowners can setup this projector (if you read the instructions). When watching movies, images are excellent. You can spend more $$$ on another projector but I suspect the law of diminishing returns is reached with this projector (you can spend much more but won't get much more). I highly recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Upper-Mid-Range Projector Dedicated Media Room (no ambient light). 135" Silver Ticket 16:9 White Screen. Previous Projector was a BenQ HT1075 (1080P DLP) Pros: - Many high-end features, including all mechanical adjustments can be done with the remote. Gratituous amounts of vertical shift and generous horizontal shift, and includes blacking capabilities. - Screen unformity is a step up from my previous projector (HT1075), which includes edge to edge brightness and clarity. - 4K Enhancement/Shifting works well and gives a visual appearance of increased resolution. - Colors are more accurate/subdued than the HT1075, so when comparing side to side with a DLP projector, it may appear less vibrant, but they are more accurate. - Black levels are better than many mid to entry level projectors. I have a white screen so it's tough to get absolute black (on letterbox frames for example), but the dynamic range produced by the 5040UB is great. - Much quieter than the HT1075 (On ECO mode, it's barely audible) - No light leaks from the front louvres. - 3D Capability in non 4kE mode. - Remote, whil a throwback to simpler times, is generally pretty good. It does some HDMI CEC with the Apple TV that I have hooked up to my reciever. Cons: - Big (yet slightly smaller/lighter than others in this class or those up market). - Requires some maintenance (periodic air filter cleaning/maintenance). - Some capabilities not available in 4KE mode (Frame Interpolation/3D Mode). While I'm not a big user of these two features, it should be noted (and AFAIK there is no 4K 3D Spec yet) Bottom Line: I initially had a hard time justifying if this was nearly 2.5X times the price of my original projector (HT1075). When an image from a good source was displayed, I was very happy with the image of the HT1075 (excluding the black levels). What the Epson brought to the table was: 1.) A more nuanced color display, with more dynamic range for shadow detail. 2.) Better black levels (don't expect high end LCD/OLED levels, but they are good) 3.) Many more professional/high-end features (mechanical shift, zoom, keystone if needed) 4.) Better screen uniformity After a week of use, I was better able to appreciate the picture quality of the 5040UB and do think it's a great upper-mid-range projector.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this projector I haven't used it with 4K or HDR input, but I'm really happy with this projector so far. Very bright. I have it projecting on a 135in screen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Way Impressed with this projector! I bought this for my home theater set up since I was getting rid of my TV, the Epson projector was very to set up and the image and color is great! I went with an inexpensive screen, a Silverticket 106, because of it's excellent ratings for the bang for the buck, the combo is fantastic for home movies...that's my view point and I am sticking with it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I'd "Love" it, but the first one had a flaw The first one I ordered had an "iris error" and kept shutting down. I called Epson and they sent me a brand new one which works wonderfully so far!! Great quality. And the upscaling to 4K is pretty phenomenal. I would definitely recommend this one if you can't afford the $5,000 Sony true 4K.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stunning I have a 12 foot diagonal screen in a dedicated dark theater room. Good Onkyo surround system. Using an older mid level Samsung smart Blue Ray player. Previously watched 3,000 hours of movies on an entry level Epson projector and loved it. This projector-orders of mag superior. CG stuff like Avatar and children's animations (Sing) are enthralling. Rapid action scenes are smooth. Blacks are deep even in rapidly changing backgrounds. Streaming over home wireless network no noticeable drop off in picture quality to my eyes. With 10 bodies in my theater room (14x22ft) had to turn on the AC to maintain comfortable temp. Rewatching some old DVD and Blue Ray favs (Bladerunner, Game of Thrones, Inception, Young Frankenstein). Upscaling makes them a new experience. Epson has a $200 factory rebate periodically. Watch for it and save.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Blacks are black, colors pop, all content crisp. Love it I use this in the living room of my home for a drop screen theater setup. I have used UHD blu rays, ps4, computer, various audio sources and streaming apple tv. All are TOP notch and I will put this up against a 4K projector any day, especially for the cost savings. Takes 4K sources, does 3D perfectly with the cheap Samsung glasses I bought, lens memory and setup being automated is SO nice, has a trigger for my screen to drop when I turn it on... Need I go on? Yes? Fine, it has a 25ms response time, it is super quiet, the remote is intuitive and awesome, it has a ton of advanced calibration features, looks BOSS and is made by Epson who are the kings of projectors and have not released a new home theater projector since 2013. Get it, best value on the market right now and it does the job of 4K upscaling better than any I have ever seen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shipping and now review of the 5040UB, one happy time. This is a person extremely happy with the experience of purchasing from B&H. The projector was shipped without delay and after a couple of weeks experience with the Epson and the great picture, what more could I ask. Not the fault of the B&H people nor Epson, the recent implementation of the 2.2 licensing has resulted in purchase of newer hdmi cables. Rather a headache.
