Meade ETX125 overview

  • 1Description

Building of the success of the smaller 90mm iteration, Meade Instruments upgrades the aperture and focal length to give you a complete GoTo-enabled observation rig with the ability to make detailed observations of the Moon and planets and reach outside the solar system to resolve bright deep-space objects with their ETX125 Observer 127mm f/15 Maksutov-Cassegrain GoTo Telescope. The compact and powerful Maksutov design uses a front corrector plate with a convex meniscus lens to correct off-axis aberrations, like comas, and chromatic aberration to produce images with true-color rendition. The nature of the lens results in a smaller secondary mirrorlimiting obstruction and increasing contrast, while eliminating the need for periodic collimation. This optical path results in a slower focal ratio and narrower field of view versus a similar Schmidt-Cassegrain variant, but the optical benefits makes this an ideal scope for all types of celestial observations.

For those who want to use it for astrophotography, an internal mirror flips down to direct the light path straight back for prime-focus photography using a DSLR camera body and optional adapters. An equatorial tilt plate is integrated into the tripod, which allows for proper polar alignment and single-axis tracking for smoother and more precise tracking as required by long-exposure photography.

The brain of this system is Meade's revolutionary AudioStar hand controller. Equipped with a 2-line LED display and 20-key red backlit keypad and an integrated speaker, it controls the motorized mount for precise GoTo capabilities. Its internal 30,000+ object database is updatable via the Internet and has the capability to take you on a hands-free guided tour of the night sky above, with four hours of audio commentary on select objects with expanded information. To consult star charts and logs, or to change eyepieces and filters, the controller also has a built-in red LED utility light that won't affect your night-adjusted vision.

    Meade ETX125 reviews

    ETX125 Observer 127mm f/15 Maksutov-Cassegrain GoTo Telescope is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am happy with my choice! The weather hasn't been the most cooperative lately. Idid get out last night and ran through the Evenings best . The telescope ran straight to Saturn and I moved through the tour. At the end I selected Saturn and it slewed right back to the planet perfectly. Just as I expected it to do. Pleased customer here. ?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I've always been a stargazer, but never had a "quality" instrument of my own. Always dreamed of a Meade or Celestron and finally pulled the trigger when I heard Meade re-released the 125. I got mine from B&H last September and have had a blast using it - so have friends and family. It's easy to move in and out of the house and load up to take with me to the the local state forest or up to the cabin. I would love to get something bigger, but for ease of transport and approval from the finance committee (aka the wife) - the 125 was the perfect fit. Sounds silly, but it's great at parties. There's nothing like the look on someones face when they see Saturn's rings for the first time. I finally got around to setting up my camera with the SLR and Canon T-Ring adapter - really cool. I attached literally the first picture I took the other night - it's fuzzy, not centered, and flawed; but not bad for a snapshot. If you're looking at this, you probably know all the details already - I love mine. I went with Meade, because I had used one in the past so it was a familiar platform. I'm sure the Celestron Nexstars are awesome, but I have never used one. I also seriously considered Explore Scientific's FirstLight 152, but there wasn't many reviews at the time. The ETX125 is a classic with great updates. The extra investment in the Stella wi-fi adapter was a win as well. Hope this helps!
