Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 overview

  • 1Description

Expand your imaging capabilities with the ultra-wide-angle view provided by Rokinon's AF 14mm f/2.8 FE Lens for full-frame Sony E-mount cameras. This optic is quite fast for its class with an f/2.8 maximum aperture which will help users work in low-light conditions. It also incorporates three aspherical and two extra-low dispersion elements to reduce aberrations for clean, sharp images. It also uses an Ultra Multi-Coating and integrated lens hood to minimize the impact of flare and ghosting in your photographs. The lens offers an autofocus motor optimized for use with Sony cameras to provide fast, accurate performance and it has manual focus override for making tweaks in any AF mode. Additionally, the lens features a rounded 7-blade diaphragm for smooth out-of-focus elements.

Blending an ultra-wide angle of view with a relatively fast f/2.8 aperture, this 14mm lens makes a great option for Sony shooters looking to get a unique perspective that is well suited to architecture, landscapes, and more.
Three aspherical elements are incorporated in the optical design to control spherical aberrations for increased clarity and resolution from edge to edge.
Two extra-low dispersion glass elements work to reduce chromatic aberrations; improve overall image sharpness, clarity, and color fidelity; and help to minimize the overall weight of the lens.
An Ultra Multi-Coating has been applied to individual elements in order to reduce flare and ghosting for increased contrast and a neutral color balance.
The integrated autofocus motor works in conjunction with Sony cameras' focusing systems for quick, accurate, and precise AF control. Manual focus override is also available for refining your focus position.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.

    Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 reviews

AF 14mm f/2.8 FE Lens for Sony E is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good buy for the money I bought this knowing about the sharpness falloff at the edges of the image. The center portion of the image is extremely sharp with a gradual falloff of sharpness going to the image edge. I accommodate this by simply treating this as a 15 -16 mm focal length autofocus optic. The color rendition is great. I mainly do landscape and night-time photography and like a gradual falloff of sharpness at the edge of the image to keep the eye focused on the major points of interest which I never place on the edges. If you want very sharp edges pay at least 2x the current price of this lens. Four stars because of edge falloff of sharpness which is easily accommodated!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Quality! Good quality! I needed a bright, wide-angle lens for landscape photos. My hesitation was between the new Sony 12-24 f/4 G or a Prime, fixed. What struck me about this lens was its 2.8 aperture, the 14mm, as well as the various reviews found on the net, even with photos. I still have a few days with her and because of the weather conditions I'm currently in, I haven't taken so many pictures, but I'm enjoying it. There is very little distortion in the images, as well as excellent sharpness and detail in various configurations. Its autofocus is fast, too, even though I prefer manual adjustment (available through the camera setup). I recommend it, regardless of price issues. I recommend it for quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this lens I found this lens to be an excellent performer. Image is sharp and there is far less distortion in the corners than you might expect for a lens this wide. I use this lens on my a6300 on a gimbal and it works perfectly. If I have any criticism it is the lens breaths slightly when focusing. Its not a ton, but sometime it can get in the way of what other wise might be a perfect shot. All in all though very happy with the purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than any Manual Focus copy... After several exchanges of the Rokinon 14mm 2.8 manual focus I decided to give the made-for-sony autofocus a try. While I don't use the autofocus, I will say that this lens outperforms all 4 copies of the manual version in edge and corner sharpness and distortion by a wide margin. I had to try 2 copies of this one too (first one was good but thought I would compare, second was softer all-around but similar in edge and corner distortion). Coma is present in small amounts in the corners only (slightly more in the upper right than in others) but still better way that any other lens by any manufacturer that I have tried. 4 stars for the slight inconsistency in the upper right corner and general poor quality control by Samyang.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Natural selection, I'll start with how partial I am to wide lenses and having that ability to see a focused view of the moment you are capturing... Now the issues... There are no straight lines anywhere, I don't mind for nature photography and creative angles but if you want to shoot a photo of a friend... well, good luck getting those lines. Electronic focus ring. As a film maker I rely heavy on my ability to focus perfectly to the hair, as a photographer the auto focus is fun but still long term I would prefer a manual every time. Honestly, I don't think I can discredit this lens anymore, it truly is a useful tool in the box and i'm super happy I bought this one. I have attached my favorite photo from my latest trip through the Sierra Nevada mountains with the Sony a7rii Infrared camera. Mike,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It delivers! 99.5% of the pictures I take are going to be displayed online and for the money, this Rokinon 14mm delivers the sharpness and clarity that I am looking for. Is it a little soft in the corners? Maybe, but not enough to really notice. I don't know anyone who will look at my photos and zoom in and check for that. I can't wait to use this lens in different light and situations. I shoot mostly architecture, construction, and landscapes and I feel like I hit a home run without breaking the bank.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from More detail to improve Sharp especially after f5.6. It took me a while to realize the sharpness is good when shooting indoor because the a6500 IBIS does not recognize the 14mm thus not working correctly. You need to set up IBIS as manual, detail failed. Auto focus is a little slower than native lens, with a little noise.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Would buy again, but there are trade offs Good build quality and decent image quality. Not the best auto focus...but I actually blame Sony for that, as they are not allowing third party access to their algorithm, which wouldn't be so big of a deal if they offered a better lense line up for their full frames.
