Wimberley AP-555 Overview

The Wimberley AP-555 Replacement Foot replaces the stock foot on the rotation collar of the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 400mm f/2.8E FL VR, 600mm f/4E FL ED VR, and 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR lenses.

The AP-555 provides enough clearance between the lens body and the foot so you can use it as a lens handle, and its longer 6.7" length makes it better balanced with smaller DSLR camera bodies than the stock Nikon foot. The bottom of the foot is milled to accept an Arca-type compatible quick release clamp, and it also features tapped holes for direct attachment to both 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 studs on tripod heads and monopods.

I purchased this to replace the foot that came on a used Nikon 400 2.8 that I purchased. The Wimberley foot gave more clearance between the foot and the lens body. This made the lens easier to pick up and carry. The Wimberley foot has a nice finish but was easy to grip and didn't slide out of my hand.

No, you would not. The Wimberley P50 Quick Release Plate is a lens plate that is designed to be connected to the bottom of the standard foot included by Nikon for tripod head usage with Arca-compatible tripod heads. The Wimberley AP-555 Replacement Foot for Select Nikon Telephoto Lenses is a replacement foot and has the Arca-compatible channel built into the foot. As such, no extra lens plate is needed if you are using the replacement foot.

No, the Wimberley AP-555 Replacement Foot for Select Nikon Telephoto Lenses is not compatible with the Nikon AF-S 120-300mm f/2.8E FL ED SR VR Lens. Wimberley recommends the AP-551 plate for that lens, BH #WIRFNAP55 (https://bhpho.to/2wP2v1E).

For the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4G ED VR Lens you need the Wimberley Replacement Foot for Nikon 400mm f2.8 and 600mm f/4.0 AF-S B&H # WIFN400. It will work with most Really Right Stuff clamps and ballheads.(The exception would be the RRS lever-release clamp.)

Will this work for the NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR Lens? If not, any suggestions?

Unfortunately, the Wimberley AP-555 Replacement Foot for Select Nikon Telephoto Lenses is not compatible with Nikkor Z 180-600 lens. If you want to change the whole foot a great option for that lens is the Kirk Lens Collar for Nikon Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR Lens (BH # KICZ1865663V). It includes the foot and the collar.
