Synology DS216+II reviews

DiskStation 8TB DS216+II 2-Bay NAS Server Kit (2 x 4TB) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little product that does so much PROS: Capable; Small footprint; administration via Diskstation Manager very easy CONS: Pricey; So many packages/addons available it can be a bit confusing as which to use While a bit pricey, the DS216+II delivers a lot of value. Here's what I'm doing with my NAS: - Syncing media on primary PC to NAS - Serving media to HTPC (Raspberry Pi 3 running Kodi/OSMC) - Backing up 4 users on primary PC to NAS - Acting as external drive for File History on Win 10 - Acting as UPS server to tell secondary PC to shutdown on power loss (NAS will also shut itself off; primary already PC had own UPS and connection) - Providing Google Cloud Print (GCP) capabilities to enable Chromebook to print (only single-sided, however; Google issue I believe) (while printer is a network device, it is now also connected to NAS via USB to enable GCP) - Serving DS Audio/DS Photo which enable access to my complete audio/photo libraries from smartphones anywhere Not yet implemented, plan to do shortly: - Enable snapshot capabilities (creates very space efficient time-based past versions of files) - Use cloud capabilities to backup phone pictures - Use cloud capabilities to temporarily allow download of content with family/friends (instead of using a public service such as DropBox) - Backup secondary PC data to NAS The NAS has been running flawlessly for 3+ weeks so far. No regrets on my NAS selection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Way better than cloud backup! After a disastrous experience with a well-known paid cloud backup service, I selected the Synology NAS solution based on a colleague's recommendation. I cannot be happier so far. Installing the drives into the bays took just minutes. Setup was seamless. It took a while to get used to the interface, but I am happy to have my backup at home now, with its reliability and privacy benefits. Get this NAS and forget the cloud that takes forever for upload, even longer for file restores, and failed me when I needed it the most.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this and I'm not sure if it's because this is my second NAS but this is easy to use. It's a bit hard to set up in the beginning. But once it's set up it works like a dream. I haven't had any errors or problems with it.
