Opteka 6.5mm f/3.5 overview

  • 1Description

Offering a truly expansive 180° angle of view, the 6.5mm f/3.5 Circular Fisheye Lens from Opteka is designed for DX-format Nikon F-mount DSLRs, and provides a 9.75mm equivalent focal length. The unique fisheye design produces exaggerated, distorted perspectives, which can be creatively used in conjunction with the short 11.8" minimum focusing distance. One aspherical element is featured in the optical design to limit spherical aberrations and a multi-layer lens coating has been applied to lessen lens flare and ghosting. Additionally, a removable petal-shaped lens hood is also included for further flare reduction and protection to the front element.

This 6.5mm f/3.5 circular fisheye lens is designed for DX-format Nikon F-mount DSLRs, where it provides a 9.75mm equivalent focal length.
Extremely broad 180° angle of view produces an exaggerated perspective and creative distortion.
One aspherical element is utilized to reduce spherical aberrations and maintain consistent illumination and sharpness from edge to edge.
Removable petal-shaped lens hood and multi-layer lens coating reduces flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.
Manual focus design and a minimum focusing distance of 11.8" pairs with the expansive fisheye field of view for generating unique perspectives with immense depth of field.
Aluminum-alloy lens mount offers a rigid interface between the lens and camera.

    Opteka 6.5mm f/3.5 reviews

6.5mm f/3.5 Circular Fisheye Lens for Nikon F is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Fish-Eye lens for someone on a budget! The lens is crisp sharp. The colors are very good. On a cropped sensor, 6.5 = 9.75mm approx but on a full frame sensor you will get a circular pic at 6.5mm. So I think, a partially Go-Proish distortion just adds glitter to the gold that this lens delivers. If you don't like that you can always correct that in Photoshop. It is a fully manual lens. Set your camera in manual mode and you are good to go. Set focus to infinity and f/8-f/11. Everything will be in focus crisp and sharp. I didn't find worthy to spend about 6X price of Opteka on sigma for not-much-different outcome. ...& mind you Opteka=Rokinon=Samyang. Choose the one you like.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value for the money I bought this lens for astrophotography on full framt'e sensor cameras - Nikon D800 and Sony A7. I wanted the circular effect so I needed a detachable lens hood - this lens is designed for APC sensors but works on full frame sensors giving a circular effect with the lens hood detached. I did some test shots just to get used to the lens and found good performance in terms of sharpness - some CA at the circular edge but not relevant for my use. Fully manual but that's fine - you don't need autofocus with a fisheye lens. Great value for a niche application lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from At first I was not sure I made a good decision.. I bought this lens to take on a work / vacation near the beach. I have always thought fisheye photos were cool. B H photo has an awesome video about fisheyes with the photographer - I think his name is Gene Ho. Anyway..Igor the lens on sale and I thought it would be a great way to start. YouTube has a ton of videos on using it. It is totally manual. I have a Nikon d7200. Sometimes the light meter works and sometimes it doesn't - not sure on that. I have gotten some really cool photos- I set focus at infinity and keep aperture at 5.6. I do feel I need to look at the lcd to figure out what's going on. All and all I really like it. Totally worth the 120 for a fun photography outing!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality vs price Just great. I was looking for an eyefish for my Nikon 3200, and all lens were above 250 euros. This one, had a very nice price. how could it be 150 dollares? I went searching in internet, and got some nice feedback. I bought it in B&H, (nice store!!), and i am very happy. For the price you cannot have a better lens. Maybe above 250 (or more) you can have a better lens... but quality vs price... oh boy it is good. I had now over 50 shoots with it, and i like the results. It's a manual lens. The F is manual, the focus is manual, i can't use fash, but i am happy. Focus is a bit hard to learn on this lens. You move the focus ring and you can't see much difference, you have to test it a lot to lear how to use it, but for the price, yes it's good. Go for it!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Value for money! I have bought this lens for landscape & astro. So far I have done landscapes, and I thoroughly enjoy this. Later this month I'll try it for astro. I am using it on Nikon D750 in Dx mode. Negligible but manageable chromatic aberrations.
