  • 1Description

With an UltraWide 21:9 curved display, the 38UC99-W 38" 21:9 WQHD+ Curved IPS Monitor from LG suits the needs of photographers, producers, and a variety of other creative professionals. A WQHD+ resolution of 3840 x 1600 offers enhanced picture quality up to four times clearer than that offered by a standard HD screen. Besides creative professionals, this monitor can suit the needs of gamers as well thanks to built-in FreeSync technology and 1 ms motion blur reduction, which virtually eliminates all tearing and stuttering leaving a crisp, clear picture for fast paced games.

To complete the multimedia experience, LG users can take advantage of dual 10 watt speakers complete with Bluetooth connectivity, allowing music to be streamed wirelessly from a mobile device directly to the monitors speakers. When switching from task to task, or you are carrying out multiple tasks simultaneously, on-screen controls allow you to adjust various aspects of the display along with the ability to divide up the screen in 14 different ways using the Screen Split 2.0 feature.

The 38" WQHD+ display from LG comes equipped with a native resolution of 3840 x 1600 along with a 5 ms response time (GtG), 300 cd/m² brightness rating, Mega dynamic contrast ratio, and coverage for over 99% of the sRGB color space. With the improved resolution and enhanced color coverage this monitor can also be used for those in search of a color accurate display such as photographers and graphic designers. On the back you will find HDMI and DisplayPort connectors as well as USB 3.0 connectivity featuring Quick Charge ports to provide a boost to your mobile devices battery.

QHD+ Screen Resolution
The Wide Quad High Definition+ (WQHD+) resolution is four times clearer than basic HD, for enhanced picture quality. Designed for display of advanced graphics on a wide screen, WQHD+ delivers 3840 x 1600 pixels.
FreeSync nearly eliminates tearing and stuttering that can occur because of differences between a graphic card's frame rate and a monitor's refresh rate.
1 ms Motion Blur Reduction
With a response time that is virtually 1 ms, blurring and ghosting are dramatically reduced to make the in-game action smoother.
USB Type-C & USB 3.0 Quick Charge
Display 4K video, transfer data and charge a laptop or mobile device, all at the same time using a single cable with USB Type-C.

Charge the battery of a connected device quickly using the USB 3.0 port. This port charges compatible devices much faster than typical USB 2.0 cables so waiting for a full charge doesn't hold you up.
Bluetooth Audio with Rich Bass
With a Bluetooth connection, enjoy the music from a mobile device right through the monitor's built-in speakers. The monitor's speakers deliver powerful and vivid sound quality enhanced by LG's Rich Bass function, which covers sound under 85 Hz for richer sound with improved bass depth.
sRGB over 99%
sRGB is the standard color space of ideal color reproduction. With over 99% coverage of the sRGB spectrum, this LG monitor is a suitable solution for professional photographers, graphic designers, or anyone looking for highly accurate color.
On-Screen Control
On-Screen Control puts a host of essential monitor settings into a handy window for quick, easy access. Volume, brightness, picture mode presets, Screen Split 2.0, and Dual Controller and more can now be adjusted with just a few clicks of the mouse, instead of hard buttons on the monitor.
Screen Split 2.0
Customize your monitor layout for multitasking with the latest version of LG Screen Split. Resize and display multiple windows at once, with 14 options including four different picture-in-picture (PIP) choices.

    LG 38UC99-W reviews

    38UC99-W 38" 21:9 WQHD+ Curved IPS Monitor is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 43.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Killer screen with the right video card I did not know the differences between NVIDIA G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync before purchasing - luckily this ends up not being a problem for me but if you have a computer with an NVIDIA graphics card you might want to look at a different monitor. Connectors in the back feel cheap as does the connection between the monitor and the stand. Controls are super simple and the picture is incredible. I primary write code on it - four wide text panes shows 112 lines each is REALLY nice. Aspect ratio for watching movies is awesome. I highly recommend getting something to serve as a backlight because it is a LOT of bright screen to stare at in a dark room.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Game changer...seriously! I don't write reviews often but after using this monitor for a couple of weeks now I felt I should....I am a Software Engineer who needs to multi-task quite often while working. I used to use 2x 24 inch ASUS monitors along with my laptop as a 3rd and with this LG monitor, its the only thing I need. Not only is the quality amazing....like extremely amazing, but using this monitor with multiple inputs and or having multiple different applications up is extremely easy and efficient. I also have used this monitor for some gaming and love it as well. All around I have zero regrets buying this and highly recommend to anyone who sits in front of a computer and wants to truly enjoy the experience and be productive. Its worth the price point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The perfect sized screen I'm a developer and spend a lot of time writing code, hoping around Linux VMs and doing data analysis. I usually have multiple windows open. When I decided it was time to upgrade my two 27 setup, I considered some of the 4K 34 curved monitored as well as larger conventional ones. I was mainly concerned with having enough vertical space, but at the same time, I didn't want to feel like I was stuck in front of a TV all day. Ended up going with this 38 despite the steep price - it was the right choice. The screen is perfectly sized, and I feel it has helped increase my productivity (it's like having three screens). Picture quality is good (although you could probably find better). The sound system is useless - removing the speakers in future versions of the product in favor of a lower price would a step in the right direction.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great productivity asset I am a software engineer. So I open lots of windows, some of them to write code, others for documents or browsing and some command line windows. So, this large curved monitor is the perfect monitor for me. I dob't care or use it for graphics editing or even gaming, so I won't be able to judge that, even though having FreeSync feature was a plus. I didn't want to be locked to Nvidia or pay more for G-Sync either. Colors are not as vivid as I was hoping, compared to other monitors, but may be that is just configuration or settings. Here are the reason that made me pay this prime prices for such monitor: 1- Size: was very important to me. I tried the 34 and I desired the height to be at least 1 longer. That's what this 38 21:9 monitor is. Perfect height and width. It can take from 3-6 side by side windows. 2- Resolution: At 3840x1600 this is awesome and enough for my text display and editing needs 3- Curved: Curved is a great sense. You will have one monitor equivalent and better than 3 little monitors attached. I hope this helps, but for me it is great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Meets Expectations As a single giant 38 Ultrawide at 3840x1600, it's everything I expected and wanted it to be. The pixels density is perfect, the color reproduction is great. The screen realestate is almost exactly the same as a 20/30/20 PLP multi monitor setup, but with no bezels. Coming from the 30 2560x1600 to the 34 3440x1440, I always wished it was just a little taller. This monitor is that perfect size and resolution I always wanted. I kept the monitor at the same distance from my eyes as I had the 34 version before it and it's absolutely fantastic. I did turn down the brightness a bit simply because my entire vision is now filled with backlit monitor vs just a portion of my vision with the smaller monitor. Gaming on this monitor is an amazing experience, even if only at 60hz. The monitor can do 75hz with an AMD video card. But AMD does not currently (october 2016) make a video card powerful enough to drive modern games at this resolution. I'm sure it's coming though and when it does, I'll switch to the red team. In the mean time, 60FPS with VSync is perfectly fine. There was no noticeable input lag for me. And unless you're a serious, professional gamer, that plays twitch-shooters for a living, you're not going to notice any input lag either. Backlight bleed is minimal with no hot corners. IPS glow is ever-present and makes me long for an OLED version of this monitor. The input ports are directly next to the 100x100 VESA mounting points. So if your VESA mount has a 200x100 bracket, it will cover the input ports - so be aware, I had to buy a new mounting bracket. I do not like the Apple-style white everything accents. Even the cables are bright white. So if you're reading this review and agreeing with me on the color style, check to see if the 38UC99-B (black version) is available. At the time I purchased, it was not :( This is the monitor I've been waiting for ever since my old PLP 3-monitor setup. One single huge surround monitor. It does not disappoint. 5 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stunning Monitor The color reproduction is stellar. The curvatureis sharper than my last one (Dell 34) so at distance it doesn't seem much larger. My biggest complaint is the power button which fades on and off when the device is in power save mode. Since I'm using this in my room it's bothersome to have a light blinking at night. It will do 75hz at full resolution with Nvidia cards over DP. I don't use it for gaming so I can't speak to its performance there. Not sure if it's worth the upgrade over a 34, but I'm still happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for designers and artists I did a lot of research on whether or not a curved screen would distort images when drawing with a Wacom tablet, but I couldn't find anyone who actually had anything to say about it other than speculation that it would be bad. So, since I couldn't find any artists who had actually tried a curved monitor, I decided to take a chance. I have to say after having this for a couple weeks now, that I think the curved monitor, at least at this size, is actually better and distorts LESS than a regular 21:9 monitor. The curve makes all portions of the screen equidistant from where your eyes are looking. So A+ for screen illustration, I highly recommend it. I also appreciate the taller 3840 x1600 resolution, it seems like a small thing, but having that extra couple inches of height really makes a difference! the 21:9 aspect ratio is awesome for movies, this was true on my smaller 34 21:9 flat screen version and it's true of this monitor as well. HBO Now absolutely will not re-code their site to allow for 21:9 viewing by the way, so that's a little disappointing, but YouTube and Netflix look amazing - note: seems to work best on Chrome with a full screen plugin, iTunes movies look great too of course. Video games are amazing in this aspect ratio and screen size, the refresh rate isn't great, but I haven't messed around with Freesync much yet. I have a nVidia card, so I'm not sure how well it will work. Overall, I'm really happy that I bought this monitor, if you are an artist and you are on the fence, go for it. ;)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy this product again--if it were bigger! Wonderful monitor thus far. After using this for about 2 weeks now, I have absolutely no complaints about it that would keep this monitor from receiving 5 stars from me. I love the anti-glare and curved screen. Here are just a few things to know. The monitor needs to be cleaned constantly of fingerprints--the slightest touch of the finger leaves a very visible smudge. Not a big deal--and no, my fingers aren't dirty. The monitor is a little flimsy--it pivots a lot on its stand when trying to clean the screen. I suppose this should all be expected due to the size. One thing I don't like is that the USB ports in the back don't allow for connectivity to the computer. So they are really only good for charging phones. I use a Mac Pro and needed to purchase a mini DisplayPort male to DisplayPort Male adapter cable. I use the monitor 4-6 hours per day for photography, videography, and home design & drafting.
