Is this bag waterproof? Or does it need a rain cover to make it waterproof?
The bag itself is not waterproof, however it comes with a rain cover which is stored in its own special pocket. This makes it water resistant, of course not truly water proof (i.e., not submersible).

It is generally weatherproof, but not fully waterproof. It does come with a rain cover though that will protect your pack and gear in the rain.

No problem taken on a plane as a carry-on item. Fit in any overhead but may be a bit cumbersome under a seat.
