Cinevate Inc Duzi 4 Overview

  • 1Description

With an onboard flywheel added and stability increased, the Duzi 4 is the result of Cinevate's pursuit to perfect its most lightweight and compact slider. The Duzi 4 supports up to 100 lb loads, and offers smooth and consistent slides for even lighter cameras thanks to the flywheel.

The flywheel adds inertial dampening, providing a degree of resistance that allows for more control. The flywheel also brings about better stability and precision. It's integrated on the bottom of the slider carriage, with a wider design for a thinner overall profile. Accordingly, the Duzi was also redesigned to be an inch wider, providing for a more stable system.

The Duzi 4 is a roller-bearing slider made of hardened aluminum and stainless steel, and featuring solid carbon fiber rails. It comes with six non-scratch, micro-adjustable urethane ball feet, with two on each end as well as two on the slider carriage. The two on the slider carriage attach slightly to the side, are suspended, and provide additional support for heavier loads. The Duzi 4 also supports the dedicated All Terrain Legs, sold separately, which are designed specifically for it. These legs are highly adjustable and capable of compensating for uneven surfaces.

    Cinevate Inc Duzi 4 Reviews

Duzi 4 Camera Slider (24-) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost Perfect Smooth as butter and really easy to get smooth shots the first take. Built like a tank but still light weight. My biggest complaint is that the support feet are to short! If they were 1/2 inch longer the slider would be just about perfect right out of the box. As it is, if you mount a quick release plate on the bottom it will sit lower then the feet making it impossible to get quick ground level shots or table shots with out removing the quick release plate or adding the all terrain legs. The all terrain legs are actually really nice and built solid but when folded up they also sit lower then the little support feet. If the support feet were just 1/2 longer all of my complaints would be solved.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great slider, brake system needs work This is our second Duzi slider. They are built rock solid and the payloads they can handle are obnoxiously good. The addition of the flywheel with the Duzi 4 makes a huge difference. Shots ramp up and ramp down much more fluidly. The movement of the carriage on the rails is the smoothest I've ever used. Prior to the Duzi's, we've used the CineSlider, Benro slider and Edelkrone slider. The Duzi 4 by far is the smoothest. We added on a Konova slider support ba. Now even with a Sachtler FSB6 head, C300 II and heavy lens, there is no bow when at the ends. Any slider will slightly bow near the end, this one bowed the least, but again, adding a simple slider support rod made this issue non-existent. The brake system however needs a lot of work. The entire brake system is dependent on two very small rubber/plastic nipples that rest deep inside the unit. They become worn quickly and you will need to change them out. I learned this by having the slider become brakeless on site during a shoot. I will say the Cinevate customer service was fantastic, they sent additional nipples out and it does solve the problem (only until they again become worn). We talked about it, and Cinevate is working on a new solution. Would the braking issue deter me from buying this again, knowing what I know now? No. The slider is that good. I really hope the next gen comes with a rock solid solution for braking, but in the meantime, I'll change out the tiny brake pads as needed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Smoooooooth I've only used this on 1 shoot, BUT it supports a good amount of weight, and was very smooth. Flywheel helps, no bands to deal with, which is nice. I think 24 is a good length, BUT you may want higher. My biggest disappointment is the feet. I felt I saw better legs advertised, but then ended up with the cheap ones that barely give it clearance from the ground, and once I put a plate on the bottom mount they were useless. I wish they included the better legs for that price, and I would have liked a bag included too. Also, YOU are the speed control, which isn't a bad thing, but I wish there was a way to control drag like you do with a fluid head, to slow things down if you wish, a little more resistance. The lock works great though!! Overall very pleased. It has weight to it, heavier than I expected, but it's not bad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Love This Thing. Smooth Slides & Professional Construction I've tried several other cheaper sliders and always had 2 problems. 1 - They're wobbly and 2 - Even when they don't wobble it's hard to get a smooth slide. The Duzi solves both of those problems since it's heavily and professionally built AND it has a flywheel built right into the camera mount. There are other sliders with flywheels but they often use a belt, which I don't like as much. I've had this on several shoots so far and I like it a lot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would buy this product again Smoothest Slider I have used to date. Having the Fly Wheel takes away all the imperfections. Well built, sturdy, light weight. Only very small complaint is the lock to keep it in place still needs some work, it feels like you have to force it a bit but I would still buy this product over any other slider on the market.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyer Beware! Worked great until I could not get my Manfrotto 500AH head off. Cheap threading. Called customer support told me it was (MY) user error. Thought it could fit any tripod head? Now I am stuck with a cheap head, so much for warranty. Good ol Canada ay!

How is the locking mechanism to keep from sliding when not in use?
    Asked by: Carlos
The Duzi 4 has a brake to keep it from sliding when not in use. It should work very well.

Could you swap out the 15mm rods for shorter or longer ones?
    Asked by: Jeremy W.
These rods are not meant to be removed or replaced; they are meant to be permanent.

Do any of you 24 buyers have any regrets for not getting the 32 version?
    Asked by: Emery W.
I don't. I had the original 24 Duzi and just upgraded to the 24 v4. I've found that I can slide from one end to the other of the 24 version in about 6-8 seconds, and for my work, that's plenty. I generally don't need shots longer then that in my edits. And if I do need something longer, it's usually something that requires a dolly or gimbal. The portability of the 24 is just too convenient to pass up.

    Can it be motorized?
    Asked by: Zacharie
Cinevate sells a kit called MOCO it attaches to the Duzi 4 and motorizes the slider. However, it doesnt have any motion control capabilities nor shutter release control. Simply just a BD controller that allows for calibrating movement range and adjusting speed.
