Losmandy G11GFT Overview

Outfitted with their Gemini 2 GoTo system, Losmandy's G11 GFT Motorized EQ GoTo Mount provides users with a powerful platform built to support and move larger optical tube assemblies (OTAs). All hardware is made of stainless steel to handle the weight as well as resist wear over years of use, while a dual dovetail saddle will accept the common Vixen-style plates and the larger Losmandy D-style plates. A dual-axis DC servo motor is reversible for use in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres and is powered by the included 12-18 VDC car/vehicle power adapter. Supporting the head and OTA is an aluminum tripod with an adjustable height to accommodate a wide variety of users.

The brain of the G11 G system is Losmandy's Gemini 2 computer hand controller. Equipped with a 40,000+ object database and updatable via the Internet, it sports a full-color display, an intuitive user interface, and an Ethernet 10/100 port for remote PC control. It features Periodic Error Correction (PEC) and declination-axis backlash correction to provide accurate, precise, and smooth tracking over long periods of time. Multiple guide, slew, and tracking rates allow it to be easily aligned and manually controlled and to accurately track near- and deep-sky objects. A non-volatile memory and real-time clock preserve settings, including backlash correction and PEC, when the system is turned off and power disconnected.

I had problem with guiding with this new mount. Losmandy sent me a new gear box and the mount is now working properly.

Poor Performance right out of the box

Right out of the box, my G11 had about 1/8 inch of backlash in RA. watched video for adjusting it but was unable to get it to work properly...had to send it to Losmandy. in the video Scott said the set screw on RA worm could be as little as 1/50th of turn off and the mount would not function properly!! If you want to spend your time tinkering instead of imaging...Losmandy is for you. These mounts are made for looks not functionality. Give me a SkyWatcher EQ-6 for 1/2 the price any day!!

Yes all of the G11 goto mounts now have the tucked version of the motors, one piece worm and spring loaded worms. Here is a great reference Spread Sheet: http://losmandy.com/files/collateral/Losmandy_G11G_datasheet.pdf

question

Can it be mounted on CGEM tripod?
Asked by: Hovhannes T.
I don't think so and I don't know why you would want to. It's going to perform best as a complete design. The legs that come with it are rock solid and the it has individual bubble levels for E/W and N/S instead of one of those maddening 'central bubble' levels on my other mount. Also, if you're going to use the Gemini 2 control system, the mounting bracket for that is on the top part of the tripod legs.
