Sennheiser E835-S Reviews

Brilliant mic for female singers

I had the pleasure of taking my partner and her band mate into the B&H store to test mid-range/cheaper mics for busking. We tested out a dozen mics back and forth with the B&H employee helping us. As soon as we tried the e835S everybody felt that it was just right. Having sung on a variety of mics, SM58 for a classic example, we have noticed that a lot of mics seem to be tuned for a more average (being MALE) vocal range. As an alto and a soprano, the chirpy/clear tone of this mic was head and shoulders above anything else we tried in this price range, even many higher end mics we have tried. Since purchasing these mics, we have taken them out busking several times with our portable PA system and have always been extremely happy with our investment.

one of the best cardioid dynamic microphone

One of the best cardioid dynamic microphone especially when singing. Meanwhile, when giving speech and recording lecture it is good enough to express the tone and emotion. The on/off switch is necessary so I recommend e835S rather than e835 which has no switch.

The only difference between the e835 and e835S is the on/off switch. Other than the switch, the mics are identical.

I understand it's a dynamic mic, but is the switch quiet even if I need to have phantom power on for other mics?

Yes the Sennheiser e835S has a silent switch. It's also a good sounding mic that you would expect to pay a bit more for.

The Sennheiser e835S Handheld Cardioid Dynamic Microphone is not a wireless microphone/transmitter, it is a standard wired microphone. As an option for a wireless system with the same mic capsule, you may like the Sennheiser EW-D 835-S SET Digital Wireless Handheld Microphone System with MMD 835 Capsule - Q1-6: 470 to 526 MHz (B&H # SEEWD835SQ16), or the Sennheiser XSW 1-835-A UHF Vocal Set with e835 Dynamic Microphone - A: 548 to 572 MHz (B&H # SESXSW1835A), or the Sennheiser XSW 2-835-A Wireless Handheld Microphone System with e835 Capsule - A: 548 to 572 MHz (B&H # SEXSW2835A). For a camera-mount system, the Sennheiser EW 135P G4 Camera-Mount Wireless Cardioid Handheld Microphone System - A1: 470 to 516 MHz (B&H # SEEW135PG4A1) is a great option. The EW-D and EW series systems have an operating distance of up to 330 feet line of sight, and the XSW system has an operating distance of up to 100 feet line of sight.
