BMD Teranex AV Is Well Worth It

I purchased the Teranex AV along with the Hyperdeck Studio 2 to digitize my vast library of DV, DVCAM, HDV, BetaSP, and Hi8 tapes. I had thought about buying one of these for years. I should have pulled the trigger earlier as the Teranex 2D & 3D had analog video inputs. Those models are no longer available. That turned out not to matter as I have BMD's Broadcast Converter, so I could get analog signals converted to SDI that way. BMD has several mini converters that can also do the job.
I like the overall look and feel of the product. The illuminated buttons and built-in LCD screen are nice. Use is straight forward. The input button will display your input signal on the various illuminated format buttons. Switching to the Output button lets you choose any of the frame rate and format buttons to convert your input. Menu options display on the LCD. I saved my setup to the first of 6 Preset buttons. Most impressive is the unit's hardware based de-interlacing, up-conversion and video noise reduction. My first tests where grainy, outdoor concert footage shot on DV in low light years ago on a Sony PC100. Near the end of the show, I had switched to night mode. Very grainy.
After recording, I watched the footage I digitized in Premier Pro and I was stunned to see the recordings de-interlaced and absolutely grain free. Also without appreciable loss of detail. Very impressive indeed. I am super happy with this purchase.

Will the Teranex be able to overscan/ scale to ...
Will the Teranex be able to overscan/ scale to fill for live IMAG video walls that aren't true 16:9 but more like 16:8? Which the wall scaler will stretch the image horizontally.
I understand this will cut off the top and bottom of the image but I'd rather that than a stretched image.
Asked by: John
Yes Blackmagic Design Teranex AV allow you to adjust the width and height of the image greater than 100% to accommodate the wall.

DOes the teranex AV convert analog PAL to HD/SDI ...
DOes the teranex AV convert analog PAL to HD/SDI 1080/50i?
Asked by: Guillermo
No, it will not be able to convert from analog PAL to SDI because it does not have an analog input.
However, this converter from AJA will be able to convert from analog PAL to SDI 1080/50i.
