  • 1Description

Illuminate your scene with the powerful FL-900R Electronic Flash from Olympus which boasts outstanding IPX1-rated weather resistance and a guide number of 190' at ISO 100 and the 100mm setting. Fully compatible with Olympus TTL, the FL-900R offers support for many advanced camera functions, such as High Res Shot and Focus Stacking, which are benefited by faster recycle times that speed up the process. Also, for the video shooters out there this flash is equipped with an LED light with a maximum output of 100 lux at 3.3' for constant illumination.

Designed to pair perfectly with Micro Four Thirds system cameras, the FL-900R offers a versatile zoom range of 12-100mm, which is equivalent to 24-200mm in 35mm terms. This can be easily expanded to cover 7-10mm lenses, 14-20mm equivalent, through the use of the built-in diffusion panel. Also, the ability to tilt from -7 to 90° and rotate 180° left and right permits for numerous bounce flash setups. Another advantage of this flash are full wireless TTL features, including master, slave, and commander modes with 4 flash groups. Additionally, it offers your standard slow, high-speed, 1st and 2nd curtain sync options as well as a stroboscopic mode.

Supports Olympus TTL system for use with special camera functions, such as High Res Shot and Focus Stacking, as well as automatic exposure and high-speed sync.
Guide number of 190' at ISO 100 and 100mm (200mm equivalent) provides exceptional illumination in dark locations.
Zoom range of 12-100mm (24-200mm) enables use of a wide variety of lens types. Also, a pull-out diffuser permits the use of ultra-wide 7-10mm (14-20mm equivalent) lenses.
Flash head tilts from -7 to 90° and rotates left and right 180° for full bounce capabilities.
LED video light provides constant illumination source as well as AF assist in dim lighting. It offers six output levels and can output a max of 100 lux at 3.3'.
Wireless master, slave, and commander functionality expands the possibilities of the flash system. The FL-900R offers an improved commander mode via the included IR filter that offers control over up to four groups of flashes on one of four channels.
IPX1-rated weather resistance and an operating temperature of 14-104°F provide this flash with the same level of sealing as Olympus' high-end mirrorless cameras, permitting use in a variety of inclement weather conditions.
High-speed sync flash range has been expanded to 1/128 power.

    Olympus FL-900R reviews

FL-900R Electronic Flash is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally a professional quality flash from Olympus Got the flash unit a few days ago. The built looks very solid, finally with metal (not plastic like all other older Olympus models) shoe mount. So far had time to try it only on camera using TTL mode with various Olympus and Panasonic/Leica lenses on E-5 and OMDM5II, worked perfectly. On camera it is a bit large for M5II body without grip, but with grip it feels more balanced. The power is similar to FL-50R, just faster, and overall a much improved and powerful version of FL-600R. Some of the features appear to be optimized for the upcoming EM1 Mark II and possibly the 12-100 mm PRO lens, which is not bad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Probably the Last Flash I'll Have to Buy Well, this is just a lovely beast of a flash, perfectly matched to my new OM-D E-M1 II. It has a great lean-forward profile and throws a great blob of light forward, with a nicely engineered piece of diffuser plastic plopping down from the top slot to widen the field for my 7-14mm PRO lens. It looks huge, but it's really about the same size (albeit heavier) as my budget German flash, and it comes with a nice diffuser/bounce cup attachment, a table foot, an IR shade and a substantial case cover. And it just feels like quality, at the same level as the camera body and PRO lenses. Also, the fact that I could use it in the rain in Iceland without any problems probably made it pay for itself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Product Needed this to replace my FL-50 that sparked and let out the magic smoke. I photograph professionally and always carry two flashes thus only being down to one I needed a replacement. This flash is about the same size as my FL-50R but does a lot more. The flash works as expected on my E-5 and OM-D camera. Fill flash on TTL FP works as expected. No surprises in any of the modes. Recycle times with NI-MH batteries is excellent. Highly recommend product for Olympus systems, would work well with other brands just without communication, and would work well as an off-camera flash.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Long Awaited Pro Level Flash From Olympus At last, a wonderful flash for the MFT format. Powerful, even lighting and exposure. Below image is a straight forward shot to illustrate the output of this flash. Olympus Pen F, Olympus 7-14mm F2.8 Pro lens, shot at 7mm F2.8. FL-900R with built in Wide Panel. When camera is set to Program (P) mode and flash is set to either the FP TTL or the TTL setting, the lens automatically shifts to the widest available lens opening. Lens Shift is automatically disabled and F stops cannot be changed to increase depth of field. This not a problem just an observation. When camera is set to Aperture (A) mode all F stops are available. Used this flash with the 12-40mm F2.8 Pro lens, again, with outstanding results. The Focus Assist Light in the flash itself works extremely well even in total darkness. Brightness of the assist light is fully adjustable. The Pen F focuses quickly even in complete darkness. Very pleased with this unit and recommend it highly to all serious MFT users.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Power and speed I have only had the fl-900R a couple of days so most of my observations are from testing rather than actual shooting conditions. On first impression it seems a bit big, and heavy, but it balances well on an E-M1, particularly with the grip. In fact it is only about 1/3 heavier than a FL-600R (about 17 ounces with NIMH batteries). The metal plate makes it feel quite secure on the camera. The flash has plenty of power to fill a normal room. It had no problems when bounced off the ceiling, with or without the included bounce adapter and worked well with third party flash modifiers. When zoomed to the 100mm setting it was able to light objects over 50 ft away. Recycle time is very short. That may be due in part to the power as it seldom has to use the full charge. Off camera it works well with either the FL-LM2 and the FL-600R. When used as a master the included IR filter does not seem to interfere with triggering an off-camera flash and should prevent the communication flashes from interfering with the setup. So far the FL-900R seems to be an exceptional flash: Powerful, fast, and well suited to the E-M1.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bueno, aunque muy caro para lo que hace.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive but does the job. Works well, makes the camera (OM-D E-M5 Mark II) a little unstable, but great balance when the optional vertical grip is in use. Very powerful and full featured.
