Zoom U-22 Overview

Armed with the Zoom U-22 ultracompact 2x2 USB Handy audio interface, it's easy for musicians, songwriters, and singers to record one source at a time to their computer, iPhone, or iPad. At home, outside, or while traveling, the U-22's user-friendly tactile controls and high-resolution 24-bit / 96 kHz converters help you capture your creativity with quality. Plus, it comes with Ableton Live Lite and the Steinberg Cubasis LE iPad app to provide the software you need to take your music from inspiration to a finished production.

The U-22 features one low-noise microphone preamp with switchable phantom power and an XLR-1/4" combo jack, allowing it to handle a dynamic microphone, a condenser microphone, or a Hi-Z instrument such as a guitar or bass. A 3.5mm mini-jack input is also available for recording a stereo line input via a connected iPad, mixer, or other portable audio device. Thanks to zero-latency direct monitoring, RCA main outputs, and a 3.5mm headphone port, the U-22 can simultaneously feed speakers and headphones.

Innovative Handy Design
The U-22 can be bus powered via USB (USB Type-B to Type-A cable included), and its ultracompact form factor is perfect for use with a laptop or iPhone/iPad. The innovative design provides quick access to connectors, knobs, and controls for effortless setup and operation. A simple bicolor LED indicates signal presence and clipping to help you avoid distorting your recordings.

Proper connectivity and operation with an iPhone or iPad requires separately available accessories—two AA batteries or the Zoom AD-17 AC adapter for power, plus an Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit or a Lightning-to-USB Camera Adapter.

Pristine Recording and Playback
The U-22 features a single high-performance, low-noise mic preamp—the same pre found in the acclaimed H6 Handy Recorder with less than -120 dBu EIN, and recording and playback at resolutions up to 24-bit / 96 kHz. You can also use the U-22 as a studio-quality headphone amp and listen to your favorite music in full fidelity.
Get Connected
The U-22's XLR/TRS combo input has switchable 48V phantom power, so it can be used to record a dynamic or condenser microphone. The combo jack's Hi-Z support allows direct connection of an electric guitar or bass. The U-22 is also equipped with a stereo 3.5mm mini-jack input to accept line-level signal from a mobile device, mixer, or other portable audio device. The U-22 can record one input at a time. The XLR/TRS combo input will be disabled when recording from the 3.5mm line input jack.
Power Your Live Performance
The U-22 is a great audio companion for musicians who incorporate digital audio processing or prerecorded sound elements into their live performances. Connect the U-22 interface to a Mac/Windows laptop or an iPhone/iPad, pull up software effects or a looper, and send your processed signal to a mixer or the house PA via RCA stereo outputs.
Zero-Latency Monitoring
For zero-latency recording and mixing, the U-22's direct monitoring switch allows you to hear your signal before it passes through the computer. Separate RCA output jacks and an independent headphone output provide multiple options for monitoring.
Ableton Live 9 Lite
Bundled with the U-22, Ableton Live 9 Lite is a powerful DAW program that lets you record tracks quickly and intuitively, enhancing them with studio-quality effects like EQ, compression, reverb, delay, chorus, filter, and more. Plus, Ableton's performance workflows let you take your music to the stage where you can mix and record live.
Steinberg Cubasis LE
Cubasis LE, a 4-track audio recording/editing/mixing app for iPad with an intuitive touch user interface is also included with the U-22.
