Bubblebee Industries Windkiller Overview

The black, medium-sized Windkiller Short Fur Slip-On Wind Protector for 18 to 24mm Mics from Bubblebee Industries is a wind protector that fits shotgun microphones. It can be used in outdoor environments to reduce wind noise when capturing audio for video, broadcast TV, ENG applications, and more.

The bottom of the Windkiller is constructed of a specially designed rubber mount that grips the microphone while still making it easy to slide it on and off. The top is a highly durable faux fur that blocks out wind noise. It is compatible with the Audio-Technica AT877/AT4073, DPA 4017, Sanken CS1, Sennheiser MKH 8060, and Schoeps CMIT 5U.

I purchased this for an on-camera mic that I will be running in AK come August and wanted to give it some testing before then. Living in CO, I have plenty of opportunity to get winds like Ill expect in AK. After running tests of this vs a handful of other and older styles, this absolutely stood up to them and out performed in most all cases for specifically wind noise. I the audio didnt drown into wind noise (I was especially happy with it's help for distant pickup when there is heavy winds). The biggest thing I would say is remember to turn down your audio so there is no peaking in post otherwise you'll still run into issues no matter. Just for fun I even tried it against my much larger wind protector on a Senn MKE 600 (I have this for the RODE VideoMic GO II) and was impressed, mic to mic there was of course a difference but with heavy wind mitigation, it was only slightly behind the long fur slip on I have on my MKE 600. Very happy with the purchase.

This product does what is designed to do. It blocks out wind noise. I have never had a problem with wind noise since I started using it. It is very durable and has a high quality feel to it.

Does it work for sennheiser mke600? If not, which one do you have that does fit it?

Yes, I owned the Sennheiser MKE600 and used the Long Hair Bubblebee Windkiller and it was the best of every brand I tested including Rycote (with extensive testing). The Rycote is very good however, but I preferred the Bubblebee Windkiller Long Hair. Bubblebee recommends the LARGE version for the MKE600.

The simple answer is that a windshield with longer hair can provide better protection for the microphone against wind noise in very strong wind because the longer hair and varying lengths can help to slow down the wind's speed before it reaches the mic. A windshield with shorter hair generally works very well to protect the microphone against wind noise in low- to mid-level wind. Additionally, the shorter hair allows a microphone to retain more of its original frequency response.

The Azden SGM-250CX Short Shotgun Microphone requires the Bubblebee Industries Windkiller Long Fur Slip-On Wind Protector for 18 to 24mm Mics (Small, Black). The capsule section of the microphone is 4" long, and the windshield is 4.1" long.

The medium-size Bubblebee Industries Windkiller Long Fur Slip-On Wind Protector for 18 to 24mm Mics (Medium, Black) is too long for the Deity Microphones S-Mic 2S Moisture-Resistant Short Shotgun Microphone. The mic is 5.83" long and the inside depth of the windshield is 5". Instead, use the small-size Bubblebee Industries Windkiller Long Fur Slip-On Wind Protector for 18 to 24mm Mics (B&H #BUBBIWKS), which has an inside depth of 4".
