Benro FGP18A overview

  • 1Description

The FGP18A Go Plus from Benro is an aluminum, 4-section tripod which offers a variety of studio-support amenities in a compact, travel-tripod design.

Sporting an impressive strength-to-weight ratio, the FGP18A can support up to 22 lb while weighing just 3.5 lb. Usable at either full height or ground level, the tripod can extend up to a maximum height of 60.6" or be lowered down to a minimum height of just 14.6". Its compact and travel-friendly design can be directly attributed to the reverse folding legs which break the tripod down to just 18.1" in length.

Each of the tripod's legs features a 4-section design allowing for the optional deployment of different leg sections to achieve varying heights. The legs also utilize Benro's sealed twist-locks which help to resist dust and moisture. One of the legs, marked with a blue ring, can also be joined with the center column to form a monopod - a useful feature for shooting in environments where tripods may not be permitted. The center column also features a unique lateral arm function which allows the column to tilt horizontally and lock in a wide range of different angles and positions.

The tripod's top plate features a standard 3/8"-16 mounting screw ideal for attaching most common tripod heads. Additionally, the FGP18A includes a carrying case and a set of interchangeable spiked feet for increased stability in dirt, sand, mud, and snow.

    Benro FGP18A reviews

FGP18A Go Plus 4-Section Aluminum Travel Tripod is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Quality and Versatility for the Price As stated in the description, it does indeed have a very good weight to load bearing ratio. I've used this with a variety of cameras from small to large and it holds them all very well. The legs are easy to maneuver into a variety of positions - I had no trouble getting it set low to the ground for an up-close shot with a field camera. While my large Cambo SC2 monorail isn't able to be held by the matching ball head that I purchased with these legs, it is able to be mounted directly to the tripod without the head, and it holds it well. The included panning adjustment is very helpful here. It includes a hook for hanging weight from the center column to help keep it more steady. There are metal spikes included that can be used in place of the rubber feet. The tripod folds up in such a way that it will actually fit in the included carrying bag when a head is attached! I've seen numerous other tripod legs that don't fit into their bags anymore after a head has been mounted. Good to see that the carrying bag is actually useful here. Leg locks all feel secure. The ability to remove a leg to use alone as a monopod seems a bit gimmicky, but it is a useful bonus. My only criticism is the plastic piece that holds the center column. With heavier cameras, this can be noticeably flexible, especially if the center column is raised at all. Hanging weight from the hook helps with this, but it doesn't totally alleviate the problem of the center column getting wobbly. I only noticed this happening with very heavy cameras, but it does indicate a weak spot in an otherwise excellent tripod. You will need to purchase a separate head for it if you don't already have one. But this is good, because it allows you a huge variety of choices for finding the best head for your needs, or possibly upgrade a head in the future, or keep a collection of several heads, etc...
