Illuminate elusive and distant creatures with your compact flash by picking up the MagBeam Wildlife Kit from MagMod. Featuring the essential MagGrip for setting up the MagMod flash modifier system, this kit lets you get started right away with the MagBeam and tele lens combo. The lens helps focus the flash beam, providing an additional 2-3 stops of usable light while also creating a distinct beam with crisp edges. The MagBeam can then be collapsed or extended in any of three positions to create different spotlight patterns. The MagBeam is also able to accept optional MagMasks and a wide lens for projecting patterns on your scene. Additionally, the MagGrip has neodymium rare-earth magnets for quickly mounting various accessories from the MagMod system with ease. And, the silicone rubber material will securely hold the modifiers without damaging your flash.

    MAGMOD MMBEAMW01 reviews

MagBeam Wildlife Kit is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hard to attach Unfortunately the MagGrip is too small and inflexible to fit on a Nikon SB-900 and needed brute force to get it on and once it was on, I found that it prevented the flash from zooming. Very disappointing. I had to return it as it was unusable with my equipment but would buy again in the future if MagMod can design a large and more flexible MagGrip. Ann S

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It Works But... Its made of rubber and is relatively heavy. The grip is hard to install on my SB800 which has a small head. The magnets are very powerful so removal is difficult. Suspect these characteristics are needed to hold it in place due to its weight. Extending the body is easy; collapsing is difficult. Repeated installation and removal will undoubtedly add undue stress to the flash beyond normal use. On the other hand it does work at least as well as the completion (BB & HD), once fine tuned, but is significantly most costly. Perhaps the other light modifying features of the system justify the expense (not for me). If your only interest is flash distance extension you may want to look elsewhere. Since I have multiple flashes I will leave it in place on my designated bird set up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works very well - just the ticket when birding in low light Much easier to mount and dismount than the Better Beamer I had. Focuses the light a little better. Once adjusted, the centering of the beam in the center of the frame stays put in use. I found optimal brightness to be at 70mmon my Canon 550EX (it was 105 with the Better Beamer). Minor issues: it's bulkier and heavier @ ~280grams BB is ~80 grams. A bit tricky to collapse for storage, even though they have a video showing the "trick".

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not Perfect, But Useful I've used a Better Beamer (BB) for several years and, overall, the Magmod may be a little better. I just used mine in Costa Rica with the following thoughts: Pros: 1. It's more substantial physically so can stand a little more banging around in the field. 2. Once you get the collar on the flash and adjusted it doesn't move. 3. The magnets hold tightly and everything generally aligns ok when they grab. 4. You can keep the tube collapsed until you need it. 5.It's easier to pack and faster to attach than the BB. Cons: 1. Big issue for me - It's difficult to collapse the tube (the video indicates it takes a "little practice.") The best I can tell, the flash has to be facing you and it takes both hands to collapse. Usually I had to fully remove the flash to collapse the tube. Several times I was able to only partially collapse it and put it in my bag that way. Frustrating. 2. It's heavier than the BB and costs twice as much. 3. The fresnal lens popped out once. 4. I seemed to have more issues with steel-eye and red-eye on birds, but I don't know if it was the result of the Magmod focusing the beam more than the BB or just coincidence. Time will tell on that. I think the pros likely outweigh the cons so I'll stick with the Magmod for now. Magmod does need to work on the collapsing issue though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great design - quality materials - works as it should! I purchased this product to add fill light when photographing wakeboard/water skiers in action from the back of the tow boat using a Nikon SB-700. Functionally the design works great, it's super easy to attach and secure even in a roller coaster like small speed boat. The base part, the MagGrip, is nice and tight fitting and does not slip in use. The light extension worked really well at the 75-90ft range. I needed to adjust the MagGrip to center the light once and it held nicely after that. I was concerned about the weight after reading some of the comments but it was not a issue for me (but then again I'm a fairly big guy). Extending the unit is like magic. The only problems I've had with it, is trying to collapse it back down. It could just be me but it takes two hands to crunch up the sides and uniformly push down. I had the plastic lens pop out on me the first couple of times I tried to collapse it down - I am getting better at it. All in all very happy with it!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Magbeam Wildlife Kit Bought this as an upgrade to the Better Beamer. Rock Solid 10x Better Mount . Light is much more concentrated than a Better Beamer. Only downside it's a little front end heavy with a flash arm bracket on my 600 f4 other wise it would be a 5 Star.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too inflexible and difficult to install on large Speedlights While This product may be wonderful if you either have small Speedlights or extremely large and strong hands, I have found it impossible to pull the MagGrip (the magnetic base) onto my Nikon SB-900 heads with only one pair of hands. This product, while a good idea, needs further refinement and should either be supplied with MagGrips in several sizes or with ones with much more easily stretched side bands. I need to be able to pull the MagGrip off and on my SpeedLights quickly and easily because the SB-900 Speedlights no longer fit in their Nikon cases when the MagGrip is installed on them and I travel extensively. Another flaw is that the Fresnel lens falls out of its slots far too easily when you collapse or expand the MagBeam housing I have never returned a product before but unfortunately the MagBeam has proved to be impossible for me to use so I am reluctantly having to send it back.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from So far so good but ... Practical and easy to use . Perfect for a fill-in ligth or night shooting situation. Bird photography / I barely use flash and others beamers therefore the MagBeam is a great companion. Easy to fold , easy to store , easy to apply ! As far as the quality and practical side MagBeam is a MUST-Have ! Reading reviews before purchasing it I almost cancel my order as I kept reading it is difficult to apply the rubber magnet / I HAD NO ISSUE WHAT SO EVER . It is firm and well-thougth. Heavy ? YES and therefore I only give 3* to this review. I mean , not heavy to carry but heavy for the flash different locked position. When locking the flash in a upper position the crank / click do not hold the weight of the beamer and remain down. Any wildlife photographer use Mc Gyver Tricks I'll find one :-)
