Ooma Telo 2 Overview

The Ooma Telo VoIP Phone System provides clear voice over IP (VoIP) phone service through your broadband internet service. The unit comes with lifetime free nationwide calling and cheap international rates, eliminating pricey phone bills (see note below). The Telo features a USB port for future expansion, support for Ooma Telo handsets, and an online phonebook.

The Telo uses large physical buttons to control basic functions like changing lines, retrieving voicemail, and send-to-voicemail. With the Ooma service, your voicemail is stored online and can be retrieved from anywhere. Management is handled easily through your web browser, letting you view a call log, block unwanted numbers, purchase prepaid international calling minutes, and find quick support for problems. By purchasing a separately sold adapter, Bluetooth wireless connectivity can be achieved.

Pros: Easy To Activate And Configure. Cons: Login Requires 1 Preceding Phone Number, Not Indicated On Web Form. Charge Card Is Necessary For Setup, Even For Free Service, Though Does Not Appear Charges Are Incurred. Minor Annoyances: Cannot Disable Built-in Voice Mail, Only Change Time Delay To 59 Seconds, Allowing Answering Machine To Pickup Before Telo. Dial Tone Is Close To Real Thing, Just Has Strange Musical Precursor. Audio Fidelity Is Superb, Even With Low-bandwidth DSL (copper) Internet Service.

I've been in a hybrid environment with my cable provider for years, still buying phone services from them. When I decided to finally cut the cord I started with Magic Jack because it was cheaper. It also had significant issues. So I bought Ooma and couldn't be happier. Everything just works. Sound quality is excellent.

I needed to send touch tone commands to a remote freeze alarm connected to a generation one Ooma Telo. Didn’t work. Dialing OUT it could do; hearing a touchtone reply, gen one couldn’t. Can Telo _second_ generation accept a DTMF signal?

While the Telo 2 is compatible with inbound DTMF tones, often DTMF tones may not get transmitted at the proper levels when accessing some systems such as conference call services or standalone automation devices.

In a word - yes. There is a fee for the transfer and it takes a little time - like a few weeks. It would be done through Ooma in this case. Be sure not to cancel your old service until the transfer is complete. You can't transfer a number you don't have.

Yes, you can port your landline number from the Ooma service to your phone service provider. In order to do this you will need contact your service provider to initiate the porting process and provide them with the Ooma account information.
