MindShift Gear 520380 overview

  • 1Description

The charcoal TrailScape 18L Backpack from MindShift Gear is a versatile bag designed to comfortably and securely carry your mobile photo studio. The spacious main compartment features an adjustable partition system that can fit a large DSLR with an attached 70-200mm lens, two additional zoom lenses, and a shoe mount flash or an additional lens. Users of mirrorless camera systems can fit up to eight lenses along with a camera, plus a flash or an additional lens, as well as a backup camera.

Access to the main compartment is provided by a front-facing zippered panel with a 180° downward opening. Along the inside of that zippered panel are two zippered, mesh organizer pockets which can be used to hold hard drives, portable batteries, camera filters, or small electronics. Integrated within the main compartment's zippered panel is a front-facing, zippered accessory pocket. This pocket includes both a dedicated laptop compartment and a dedicated tablet computer pocket that can accommodate a 13" laptop and a 10" tablet computer respectively; while a tablet computer placed inside its pocket is further secured by a hook-and-loop tab. The accessory pocket also includes multiple organizational pockets for pens, business cards, or tools. An additional 6L of capacity can be used for books, notepads, or packable clothing. In front of the accessory pocket is a small pocket for items that need to be accessed quickly and conveniently, such as a pair of sunglasses or a smartphone with up to a 5.5" screen.

The TrailScape 18L Backpack can be carried using its built-in top handle, or by its adjustable, padded shoulder straps which, along with the outside rear surface, feature a resilient and breathable 3D mesh padding that cushions the wearer's back and shoulders. The padding's elevated structure optimizes air circulation, minimizing perspiration in warm and hot environments. For heavy loads, this backpack's adjustable sternum strap and removable waist belt can be used to more evenly distribute the weight being carried, while the contoured back panel provides lumbar support. Along both sides of the TrailScape 18L Backpack are two large, stretchable pockets with side-compression straps that can each hold and secure a 32 oz water bottle. Alternatively, the pockets can be used to hold a tripod, monopod, or trekking pole; each can be secured using the side-compression strap located above the pocket.

Featuring a durable nylon and polyester construction, the TrailScape 18L Backpack is built to be weather-resistant, and it includes a seam-sealed cover for use under heavy rain. Along with the side-compression straps, four gear loops on the face of the front panel allow for extra items to be clipped or tied to this bag's surface, while each zipper features a pull cord for easy opening under wet or cold conditions.

TrailScape 18L Backpack (Charcoal) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb design! Best pack I've ever owned. Small, light, easy to access, plenty of space for extras such batteries, cable release, levels, adapters, tablet, and lunch and a raincoat. Very well-configured as well, without that too-tech look with too many loops and straps that catch on everything. I can carry two mirrorless cameras (one full-frame) and 5 to seven lenses depending on kit configuration. Great for architectural work, as it is small, easily accessed for lens changes, and actually sits up without slouching across the floor. Great job, Mindshift!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The only perfect camera backpack after a long research I've been doing research on camera backpack for a week and stayed in a camera store for an afternoon and finally decided to buy this. It is one of very few bags that meet these requirements: - Lightweight (< 3lb). - Fits a 13 laptop. - Fits a DSLR + a mirrorless camera + 6 lenses in various sizes. - Not exaggeratively large. This backpack fits my Canon DSLR, Sony mirrorless, and 6 lenses in different sizes. If I arrange it more tightly, it can even fit an additional 70-200 f/4 telephoto lens. A 13 laptop or 12.9 iPad Pro fits neatly. In addition, it has another dedicated slot for 9.7 iPad. I haven't carried it outdoors, but I can foresee that the accessibility may not be as good as other bags that have side and back doors. But those bags are usually more expensive and heavier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this backpack! Love this backpack. It's perfect for my Olympus micro 4/3rds system since it holds a ton of gear and yet is only 18L's. The pack is very well made, has a lot of pockets for holding smaller items, and two pouches (one on either side of the pack) for tripod legs, water bottles, or anything else for that matter. I like the draw cords on the pouches which keep whatever is in them secure. And the harness is comfortable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality, lightweight and a lot of spaces! This Backpack comes with very nice quality, lightweight and can hold a lot camera equipment. I have 1 Nikon DSLR camera, 2 Triggers, Clearning stuff, 3 Lens (50mm 1.4f, 300mm 4.5f, 17-50 2.8f), 5 fillers, and a lot of another stuff...I can put them all in this Backpack. It's a very well product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just about perfect, and very comfortable I broke this bag in on a two-week trip to the Scottish Highlands and completely loved it. Size: It wasn't questioned as carry-on. Check your weight against airline limits. My kit (including the bag) is 20 lbs and consists of a mirrorless system with some heavier lenses, tripod, rain jacket, water and snacks. The waterproofing seems good, and it comes with a rain cover. Access: This bag doesn't have any side access. I had wanted that, but it turns out that being able to open the entire bag out flat is even better for me. I like being able to see everything at once, and not have to dig through different zippered compartments for lenses. It also seems like a better use of space than most of the side-access bags, which often have asymmetrical geometry. Comfort: Most importantly, this bag is extremely comfortable for me for hill walking, hiking and scrambling. I'm very petite and most bags are way too large for my frame. This bag didn't feel small, but the fairly simple design just seems to work. The padding of the back panel and straps is great. The design of the main compartment and side pockets lends well to load-balanced packing. Others I tried: I compared this bag to the Peak 20L backpack, the Mindshift UltraLight Sprint 16L, the Lowepro Flipside Trek 250 and 350. I loaded each one up and carried them around for a while. I wanted the stylish Peak to win, but the Mindshift Trailscape worked better actually made the load seem lighter than the Peak.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Pack For Mirrorless Well thought out backpack with plenty of room for a Fuji XT-2 kit with several lenses, tablet and small laptop. I debated between buying this pack and the ThinkTank Airport Essentials as both are excellent packs, for me it got down to the ability to better utilize the TrailScape for hiking and back country given the more comfortable back straps but I think either would be a worthwhile purchase. Quality is top notch and backpack is very nicely designed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would get 2 of these....Such a good bag I ordered this bag 3 months ago and waited to review to see how it performed. It is GREAT. I mainly shoot landscapes on the trail, bike, or canoe. I have plenty of room for all my gear plus water, snacks, bug repellent, and even a rain jacket (I got a bungee chord for the loops on the outside and put the jacket in there). Water and snacks usually goes in a side pocket. The material of the bag repels water very good in light rain and comes with an effective rain cover when storms get serious. Zippers are heavy duty, easy to use on the trail. I also flew international, with 2 connecting flights, and was not asked once about my bag being to big under the seat. I also had a carry on luggage bag+tripod. It is very comfortable to wear, but if you have it loaded down to the max the hip straps would help distribute the load. Max amount of gear I can fit inside is impressive (especially for a trail or travel bag) and the list is as follows: Canon 5Dsr with Canon EF 11-24 (BIG Lens), Canon 7D with Canon EF 24-105, 3 Lee 100mm filters+adapter rings, 4 backup batteries, canon battery charger, GoPro+2 batteries, wifi remote, cleaning cloths+solution, memory cards, blower, petzl headlight, GPS, knife, computer+charger wires, international power converter, tablet, manuals+paperwork, sunglasses, keys, phone, water bottle, and a heavy rain jacket strapped on the outside. That is a heavy load and I do not have that all the time, but it is more than capable of carrying it for travel. Great bag with no signs of extreme wear and tear yet. I use it too. Definitely got my moneys worth on this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality bag. Great day bag. It's not large enough to a ton of gear. I can fit a Canon 7dmii and Tamron 150x600 I. It with 2 other lenses. I bought this bag for hiking and it will be suitable for that and maybe day trips to the city.
