Gitzo GM4542 Overview

The GM4542 Series 4 Monopod from Gitzo is a 4-section, lightweight carbon fiber support designed to occupy the "balanced" position in Gitzo's monopod lineup. Utilizing Gitzo's patented G-Lock Ultras, the GM4542 has the ability to support up to an impressive 77.2 lb while weighing just 1.5 lb.

The monopod reaches a maximum height of 62.6", enough to meet the height requirements of most shooters, and features a reversible 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting thread for adding an optional head if extra height or articulation is needed. As the "balanced" monopod within Gitzo's range, the GM4542 is well suited to nearly any task or any equipment. Its 4-section design allows the monopod to collapse down to just 22.8" in length—with the smallest leg section measuring 1" in diameter—ensuring both stability and portability.

Denoting its "jack-of-all-trades" designation, the GM4542 offers impressive strength that originates from its use of Gitzos's 6X Carbon eXact tubing and patented G-Lock Ultra designs. The professional-grade 6-layer carbon weave allows the monopod to maintain maximum strength while keeping weight to an absolute minimum. The G-Lock Ultras also add to the tubing's strength by providing a rigid connection between leg sections and protecting the joints from dust, dirt, and moisture.

At the monopod's base is a redesigned rubber foot that features a pivoting ball-joint for smooth tilts and twists. Users may also remove the foot if necessary and replace it with optional rubber feet or an optional metal spike. The GM4542 also features Gitzo's standard textured hand grip for enhanced ergonomics and a removable wrist strap for increased security.

Gitzo GM4542 Reviews

After a year it failed

Ball of the foot came out after about 3 months, after being stuck in the mud. Got a replacement failed again. Replaced it with a spike had no problems until after a year, the joint between the spike and last tube failed. Had to buy another replacement part since its used a items purchase from BH doesn't get covered by warranty. I use the monopod every time I go out to shoot on my Canon R5 Prime 600mm for a monopod that has max load of 77 lb I expected more durability. I like the product but to fail so often very disappointing.

Junk

I tried two of these and both were terrible and didn’t last through one NFL season. The material seems good by inside is plastic which break pretty easily. I would return them if I could. Ever since Gitzo was bought out the quality and left and now it’s reputation from the former quality. Expensive junk.

Can you put the three footed device on it!

Being that the foot at the bottom uses a 3/8-16" threading, the Benro 3-Leg Locking Base For Monopods, BH # BEVT2 would be something you can use. https://bhpho.to/2RCCWM4
