Is this baseplate lighter than the previous model and can you move the camera more forward than the previous model?
The Zacuto VCT Pro Baseplate is lighter than the previous version, and a camera can be placed slightly farther forward due to the sliding adjustment plate.

With the first version of Universal VCT, with a Sony FS7, the stock LCD was too close to the face, with no possibility of moving the camera forward. Did someone try this new version with a FS7? Is it possible to move the camera enough forward to get the stock LCD with stock bracket to a good distance of the face?
Sony designed the LCD to be used with the loupe when in shoulder mode. Thus the LCD mounting rod, while improved with a non-twisty square post with the F7 Mark II, is not really meant to extend the LCD in shoulder mode. Since Zacuto is all about getting the camera back on the shoulder, and not forward, I do not see this plate being able to do what you wish.

Will this work with the Zacuto half cage? Not the 15mm rod cage but the Z-rail half-cage, it looks like the plate knob would be in the way
While all the knobs are of the ratchet type (meaning you can pull the knob out for repositioning) the final answer depends greatly on the camera and the other accoutrement you using. So that we may best assist you, please email us at [email protected].

Is this compatible with the shape VCT Tripod plate?
Currently I am using the VCT base plate. I believe Zacuto recommends their baseplate but the VCT 14 works fine.

Is the small red sliding camera mounting plate compatible with arca type clamps such as the Kessler kwik?
The sliding camera plate is not arca type. However Zacuto offers the VCT Pro Tripod Doc, B&H # ZAZVCTPD, for this exact purpose.

Does this attach directly to a tripod?
I hate to disagree with staff but the item as shown in the pictures will not fit directly to a tripod as supplied. You will need to buy the VCT Tripod Adapter Plate SKU# Z-VCTTP that has the wedge clamp and then you can fit it to a tripod plate. Wow do I know? Because I bought the item shown and then had to buy the VCT Tripod Plate as an extra.Frank
