Key Features
- EF-Mount Lens/Full-Frame Format
- Aperture Range: f/4 to f/32
- Two Ultra-Low Dispersion Elements
- Super Spectra Coating
Blending a versatile telephoto focal length with a modest form factor, the EF 300mm f/4L IS USM is a long-reaching prime and member of Canon's elite L-series of optics. Two ultra-low dispersion elements are used to significantly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to achieve a high degree of clarity, and a Super Spectra coating has also been applied to maintain contrast and color fidelity when working in difficult lighting conditions. Complementing the imaging attributes, this 300mm f/4 also features an Image Stabilizer to minimize the appearance of camera shake by two stops for sharper handheld shooting. The ring-type USM is employed, too, to deliver quick and quiet autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus control. Additionally, a removable rotating tripod collar is included for stable use of the lens atop a tripod or monopod.

question
I am interested in getting this lens for use on a Sony A7-II, as there is no E-mount equivalent. Does anyone have experience using this with a Metabones or Sigma MC-11 adapter? Does autofocus work with either of those on a Sony?
With regards to the MC-11, I can confirm that it will work with my copy paired with both an a6000 and an a6500. AF acquisition is faster with more light but not so bad even indoors with home lighting. AF accuracy is very good when using single AF. I don't normally shoot in continuous AF.

question
Do you find you are able to shoot out in the field without a tripod? (300mm f/4.0 IS USM lens) on a 60D (sometimes with extender 1.4x II or III) This is my wildlife/birding setup.
Yes if the light is right.. Gotta keep the shutter speed up to get the most keepers. I just got back from a backpacking trip in Glacier NP Montana. I got some real good shots of Big Horn Sheep and Mountain Goats with it. I do like this lens.

question
Will this lens fit a Canon EOS Rebel T5i? Thanks
The Canon EF 300mm f/4 is fully compatible with the T5i, yes.

question
...and while displaying my novice; can I inquire if this specific lens is compatible with the t4i?
Yes. This lens will work on the T4i. It will look like the equivalent of 450mm, due to the APS-C crop sensor, which carries a 1.5x conversion factor. All EF and EF-S lenses will work on this type of sensor.

question
What is the difference in image quality and functional automatic focus between the Extender 1.4x II and 1.4x III?(This is with a 300 mm f/4 IS L series lens on a 60D body.)
I have a 50D Canon Camera and the 1.4 III Extender. When used with the 300 mm lens I have no problem with the auto focus and there is minor image quality deterioration. You lose one stop on your aperture. It really is a great combination.
