MSI X99A Overview

Built as a multi-tasking powerhouse for demanding productivity applications for use by professionals, the X99A Workstation LGA 2011-3 ATX Motherboard from MSI is designed to fit in cases that support an ATX form factor. This 12.0 x 9.6" motherboard supports Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition processors for the LGA 2011-3 socket and the Intel X99 chipset.

The ATX form factor of the X99A Workstation has eight DIMM slots that are able to support up to 128GB of quad-channel unbuffered ECC or non-ECC memory or registered (buffered) ECC memory, plus Intel Extreme Memory Profile (XMP) memory modules. The supported memory speeds are 3333 (OC), 3200 (OC), 3000 (OC), 2933 (OC), 2800 (OC), 2666 (OC), 2600 (OC), 2400, 2200 (OC), and 2133 MHz. There are a total of ten SATA III 6 Gb/s ports, one M.2 slot (Key M) that supports PCIe 3.0 x4 and SATA III 6 Gb/s devices with form factors of 2242, 2260, 2280, and 22110, one U.2 port that supports PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe storage, and one SATA Express port that supports PCIe 2.0 x2. Additionally, there are three PCIe 3.0 x16 slots that support x16, x16/x16, and x8/x16/x8 with 40-lane CPUs, as well as x16, x16/x8, and x8/x8/x8 modes with 28-lane CPUs, and two PCIe 2.0 x1 slots. There is one 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Type-C port, one 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Type-A port, four USB 3.0 Type-A ports, and four 480 Mb/s USB 2.0 Type-A ports on the back panel, while internally, there are four USB 3.0 ports and four USB 2.0 ports available through the internal USB connectors. Using the Realtek ALC1150 audio codec, this motherboard can support 7.1-channel (7 speakers + 1 subwoofer) HD audio, and network connectivity is achieved using Intel's I218LM and I210AT Gigabit LAN controllers.

Graphically, the X99A Workstation has integrated multi-GPU support for 3-way AMD CrossFire technology and 3-way NVIDIA SLI technology. While it is not equipped with an integrated graphics controller, this will allow users to purchase a compatible dedicated graphics card of their choice.

The X99A Workstation LGA 2011-3 ATX Motherboard has been designed with features such as CLICK BIOS 5, 10GbE connectivity, M-Cloud, Audio Boost, Total Fan Control, reinforced PCIe slots, CPU overvoltage protection, Military Class 5 components, humidity protection, high temperature protection, circuit protection, ESD protection, EMI protection, and more. Protection is provided by a limited 3-year warranty.
