Voigtlander BA335A Overview

  • 1Description

Blending an impressive wide field of view with a rectilinear optical design, the Ultra Wide-Heliar 12mm f/5.6 Aspherical III Lens from Voigtlander is designed for 35mm film and full-frame digital M-mount cameras, and features an updated Heliar design to limit distortion and maintain consistent sharpness and illumination to suit mirrorless camera designs. One aspherical element is employed in the 12 elements, 10 groups optical design to control spherical aberrations and distortions throughout the aperture range. The lens also uses a manual focus design to permit fine-tuned control over focus placement, with a minimum focusing distance of 1.6', and a built-in petal-style lens hood is also featured to reduce flare and ghosting, as well as protect the front lens element.

Ultra wide-angle 12mm f/5.6 lens provides a 121° angle of view and is compatible with full-frame digital and 35mm film M-mount cameras.
Rectilinear (non-fisheye) design maintains straight lines toward the periphery of the frame for a more realistic portrayal of architectural and other geometrically complex subjects.
Updated Heliar optical design helps to maintain consistent peripheral illumination, eliminate color fringing, and reduce distortion; making it ideal for use with mirrorless digital cameras.
One aspherical element is featured in the optical design to control spherical aberrations and improve clarity, sharpness, and resolution.
Manual focus design permits smooth, refined control along with a minimum focusing distance of 1.6'.
Built-in, non-removable lens hood helps to prevent lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color fidelity when working in strongly lit conditions.
Ten-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth quality of bokeh.

    Voigtlander BA335A Reviews

Ultra Wide-Heliar 12mm f/5.6 Aspherical III Lens is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very sharp lens, beauty sunstar and can use 100mm filters That really sharp lens, good distortion control, very compatible with Sony A7x body in the small system

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Quality, Good Value I use this on my Leica M10, and love the flexibility it's added to my shooting, especially for landscapes, architecture, and large group photos (keeping people away from the extreme edges where all wide angle lenses suffer distortion). The M10 viewfinder crops to the 28mm lens, so I mostly use live view. For those unused to extreme wide-angle lenses, there is a learning curve in adapting to the exaggerated effects, such as keystoning, when the lens is not held level or at a right angle to the subject. Also, I see that if I ever need to use a filter, I will need an adapter due to the fixed hood. High quality, compact construction. Looking forward to learning more about how to get the best out of the lens. The photo, f8 Iso 100, mid afternoon, was imported to Lightroom, with no corrections, with lens detection on the camera turned off. One reviewer suggests using the 16mm correction, which I've not tried yet.
