Am I limited to 12 TB? Is it possible to add 4 14TB Seagate Ironwolf hard drives instead of the pre-installed drives?
Asked by: Sidney
I wouldn’t do that. I have a feeling if you did change out the drives to monstrous capacity things wouldn’t work as well as they do with the drive size it was designed for. It would get over clocked. You’ll likely run into firmware issues. That said, theoretically it could work but would void any warranty.

I currently run 4 separate 2014 model promise technology pegasus2 r4's off a 2014 Mac Pro. I wanted to add the newer Pegasus3 R4. Is it all going to be compatible or do I need adapters? If so which ones? I would run the new P3R4 directly from the Mac.
Asked by: Chris
Yes, I believe you will need a thunderbolt 2 to thunderbolt 3 adapter. My unit has 2 thunderbolt 3 connections. With that mentioned adapter I believe you may only be able to run at thunderbolt 2 speeds due to that connectors bandwidth. I would recommend you verify that online. I really like the drive and have had no problems with it.

question

What vendor HDDs are inside? WD? Seagate? Other?
Asked by: Michael
The R4 12TB I just received from B&H has Toshiba DT01ACA300 units installed, all dated November 2017. I haven't tested the Pegasus3 yet because I still need a Thurderbolt 3 to 2 adapter, but I had the same question prior to ordering and thought to add an answer before I forgot.

question

Can I fit SSDs in raid 0 to maximize transfer speeds? If so, what can I expect over TB3?
Asked by: Adriaan M.
This drive comes Pre-Configured in RAID 5 Mode however you can definitely Reconfigure it for a Raid 0 Mode if you would like. We would not have exact numbers for how fast the Raid 0 would be however Thunderbolt 3 will not be a bottle neck.
