Found in: Work Laptops

Designed to replace the MacBook Air, the space gray 13.3" MacBook Pro from Apple is faster and more powerful than the previous generation, yet thinner at 0.59" and lighter at just 3 lb. This system is powered by a 2.0 GHz Intel Core i5 Dual-Core processor that features a burst speed of up to 3.1 GHz, while 8GB of 1866 MHz LPDDR3 RAM helps to ensure smooth multitasking and also allows the computer to quickly access frequently-used files and programs.

The 13.3" IPS Retina display features a WQXGA 2560 x 1600 screen resolution with a 227 ppi pixel density. It has LED backlighting with a maximum brightness of 500 nits, and it includes support for the P3 wide color gamut. Integrated Intel Iris Graphics 540 delivers a sharp, clear picture, and you'll also be able to output video to an external display using the system's Thunderbolt 3 ports, which feature native DisplayPort output. One Thunderbolt 3 port can support one multi-panel 5K display at resolutions up to 5120 x 2880 at 60 Hz, or dual 4K displays at resolutions up to 4096 x 2304 at 60 Hz, each of which are able to support over a billion colors.

For long-term storage of your files, this MacBook Pro is equipped with a 256GB PCIe SSD, with sequential read speeds up to 3.1 GB/s and sequential write speeds up to 2.1 GB/s. If you want to add external peripherals, dual Thunderbolt 3 ports support bi-directional transfer speeds of up to 40 Gb/s, while also supporting 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 and device charging. 802.11ac dual-band Wi-Fi is built-in for wireless networking, and Bluetooth 4.2 technology will also allow you to connect additional compatible peripherals. Other integrated features include a 720p webcam, dual microphones, stereo speakers, a 78-key backlit keyboard with 12 function keys and four arrow keys, an ambient light sensor, and a larger Force Touch trackpad.

The 13.3" MacBook Pro includes a 61W USB Type-C power adapter that operates using 100-240 VAC at 50-60 Hz, a 6.6' USB Type-C charging cable, and a built-in 54.5Wh lithium-ion polymer battery that lasts for up to 10 hours before recharging is required — or up to 30 days of standby time. The installed operating system is macOS Sierra.

General Features

Graphics Performance
With 64MB of embedded DRAM, the 13.3" MacBook Pro provides up to 103% faster integrated graphics than the previous generation.
Flash Storage
The embedded 256GB PCIe SSD provides sequential read speeds up to 3.1 GB/s and sequential write speeds up to 2.1 GB/s.
Up to 10 hours of battery life is available for tasks such as iTunes movie playback and web surfing.
The thinner the notebook, the less space for cooling. The MacBook Pro incorporates innovations throughout the system that eliminate heat more efficiently than the previous generation — increasing airflow during intensive tasks like editing video, playing graphics-heavy games, and transferring huge files.
Retina Display
The display in the MacBook Pro features brighter LED backlighting (500 nits) and an increased contrast ratio (67%), delivering deeper blacks and brighter whites. Its larger pixel aperture and variable refresh rate make it more power efficient than previous generations. It also supports the P3 wide color gamut, which features 25% more colors than the commonly used sRGB gamut, for even more vibrant greens and reds. This helps ensure truer-to-life pictures with realistically vivid details, essential for graphic design, color grading, and editing.
The speakers have been totally redesigned to provide as much as twice the dynamic range of its predecessor, allowing for up to 58% more volume and 2.5x louder bass for increased boom. And they're connected directly to system power, enabling up to 3x more peak power, making the MacBook Pro a solid choice for mixing a track on the fly, editing video on location, or enjoying a movie on the go.
Keyboard and Trackpad
Interacting with the MacBook Pro is a better experience all around. The keyboard has been redesigned to include a second-generation butterfly mechanism, which has been refined for greater comfort and responsiveness. The Force Touch trackpad is also much larger, giving your fingers more room to gesture and click.
Thunderbolt 3
Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes the reversible USB Type-C connector. Doubling the speed of its predecessor, Thunderbolt 3 features a maximum throughput of 40 Gb/s when used with compatible devices. The connector also transmits data via USB 3.1 at up to 10 Gb/s, and dual-bandwidth DisplayPort 1.2 allows you to connect up to two 4K displays simultaneously or one multi-panel 5K display. The MacBook Pro has two ports, sharing one dedicated bus.
macOS Sierra
macOS is the operating system that powers every Mac. It's engineered to take full advantage of the hardware and designed to be as easy to use as it is beautiful to look at. macOS includes an amazing collection of apps, and also features iCloud and other innovative ways for your Mac, iOS devices, and Apple Watch to work together.

    Apple MacBook Pro reviews

13.3" MacBook Pro (Space Gray, Late 2016) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 292.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great laptop! You won't regret the price This was my first foray into Mac and I love it. The computer itself lives up to the hype and is easily the best computer I have ever owned (previously I have owned Alienware, Dell XPS, and Lenovo Thinkpad series). I was a bit apprehensive about the butterfly keyboard, but found myself typing almost as fast as on my Thinkpad after only 30 minutes, and now a couple weeks later I am typing faster. The screen is gorgeous, and the laptop is unbelievably fast. As soon as I click something, it is open. The only drawback is the battery life is not as good as Apple claimed. It was originally purported to be 10 hours, I am seeing 8-9 hours more realistically.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horizontal lines at the bottom of screen right after 30 days Horizontal lines at the bottom of screen right after 30 days (delivery date 3/15/17). Brand new computer start having issue after 30 days. Per Apple it could be issue with screen or graphics card. I did try to contact your CS to see if we can return it and replace the computer but no luck. Apple wont exchange it since it was purchased from distributor and it doesn't match their inventory. Now I have to wait for them to decide if they can replace parts or give me the new computer. You should have better return policy for your apple product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Macbook buy. Prefer Mac over Windows now. This is the first Mac I've ever bought; my whole life I've used different PCs with Windows. While this is only the second laptop I've ever bought, this Macbook is amazing. I always wanted to try MacOS, and now that I have, I can say it is awesome. I still need to get used to all the commands and what not, but I'll learn them all eventually after time like everyone else. I decided to buy this base model, and I think it's sufficient enough to handle my simple tasks that I do on a day to day basis. With all this said, I'm satisfied with my purchase, and I think future purchases will be geared towards future MacBooks as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Update from mid-2009 MBP As a long time mac user, I have been waiting for close to 3 years to update my mid 2009 MBP. I finally pulled the trigger mostly because my old MBP is near unusable. While there are many things I wish were different about this new MBP (better processor, more ports, cheaper price), I am quite satisfied with the new design, built quality and hardware/software integration. Since I need a new laptop for work right away, I couldn't wait for the touchbar version but I also don't feel like I realistically get any daily usage from having a touchbar. I am also put off by review of less batter capacity and weird placing of internal components.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from B&H great job getting to me. Apple needs fix port shortage The latest MacBook Pro only has 2 ports, both USB-c (Thunderbolt 3). Since I use an external monitor, external USB hub, and need a way to charge the MacBook at my desk, I need a minimum of 3 ports. So I had to try out various adapters and some did not work while others did not have the miniDisplay port that I currently use. So it cost me $100 in adapters, and lots of research time to arrive at any solution that worked. I ended up finding an adapter with Displayport (not mini) and USB-c for charging, with the other port used for usb-s to USB to connect the hub. My monitor does not have an HDMI connection, but DVI, VGA, DisplayPort.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Most Apple fans will buy it; if you are one. Go ahead. Honestly the computer is overpriced, but comparing it to my last laptop which was around 400$ (after taxes) this machine is godly. It's my first MacBook and I do not regret spending some of my fun funds to procure one. I am very much entrenched within the apple ecosystem owning a multitude of Apple products, this is a great addition for me. Now if you do not have ENOUGH disposable income to purchase this computer and/or your are not really invested into the Apple ethos. Then I'd eschew pulling the trigger, buy an equally or more powerful PC for less the price. as for those like me (read: Apple fanboy) and you have a lot of fun income ;) do it. Wallet please forgive me!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love new MBP wife loves her new MacBook Pro. I helped her set it up and have had no issues swapping back and forth with my previous gen MBP........both work great. hers is smaller, lighter and has great speakers. also her keyboard has a slightly different feel. overall very satisfied except for new style's so easy connecting anything you want to mine, while she needs adapters to connect virtually everything. we bought a few adapters and think our connection needs are handled, but it sure seems like an unnecessary hassle. I guess when (if?) everyone goes to the new style connector life will be good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Laptop, Could've Been Better In my review of the 12 inch 2016 Rose Gold MacBook, I wrote, I'm not a power user. I mostly just pay bills online, surf the web, stream movies/television shows, and edit pictures using Photos. For these tasks, I've found this new Macbook more than capable. Only once or twice have I felt I was waiting for this machine; and that was when I was multi-tasking more than usual. I almost never had more that one peripheral connected to my previous laptop.... so just having one usb-c port has not been a problem. This new 13 base model 2016 MacBook Pro answers any quibbles I had with the 12 MacBook. It is faster at loading web pages or multitasking several programs at one time... and it has a second USB-C port which lets me skip using a multi-port dongle. This 2016 MacBook Pro isn't perfect. Apple should have included an SD Card port and priced it lower. But that being said, I'm pleased with my new 2016 MacBook Pro.
