Mac OS + touch bar = more intuitive workflow
Found in: Creative Laptops

Experience the innovative interface of the Touch Bar in the late 2016 space gray Apple 15.4" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar.

The Touch Bar places controls right at your fingertips and adapts to different apps to provide useful functions without having to navigate complex menus or memorize keyboard shortcuts. Replacing the function keys in the top row of the keyboard, the Touch Bar features a Retina-quality display and supports multi-touch input.

The power button has been upgraded with a Touch ID sensor, so you can quickly log into your MacBook Pro using your fingerprint. You can also use Touch ID to make purchases over the web, thanks to Apple Pay. Touch ID enables a quick, accurate reading of your fingerprint and uses sophisticated algorithms to recognize and match it with the Secure Enclave in the Apple T1 chip.

The system features a 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7 quad-core processor, 16GB of 2133 MHz LPDDR3 onboard memory, a 512GB PCIe-based SSD, four Thunderbolt 3 (USB Type-C) ports, a 50% larger Force Touch trackpad, a keyboard with a 2nd-gen butterfly mechanism, stereo speakers with double the dynamic range of its predecessor as well as improved bass, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2 wireless technology, and even a 3.5mm headphone jack. macOS Sierra is the installed operating system.

Touch Bar
The Touch Bar replaces the function keys that have long occupied the top of your keyboard with something much more versatile and capable. The multi-touch, Retina-quality display changes automatically based on what you're doing, from showing traditional system controls, such as volume and brightness, to more directly interacting with or browsing through content. Intelligent typing features like emoji and predictive text improve the typing experience, and you'll be able to customize the Touch Bar to fit your needs. The Touch Bar can also adapt to apps, such as Mail, Safari, Messages, and even third-party apps like Adobe Photoshop, so you'll have access to useful functions previously hidden in menus.
Touch ID
A Touch ID sensor has been integrated into the power button, so you can quickly log into your account, even when another user is logged in. You can also use it with Apple Pay to securely purchase things over the web, thanks to macOS Sierra.
Retina Display
The 15.4" Retina Display has a 2880 x 1800 resolution and features brighter LED backlighting than its predecessor as well as an increased contrast ratio, delivering deeper blacks and brighter whites. Its larger pixel aperture and variable refresh rate make it more power efficient than previous generations. It also supports the P3 color gamut, which allows for more vibrant colors. This ensures true-to-life pictures with realistically vivid details, which are essential for graphic design, color grading, and editing.
Force Touch Trackpad
The Force Touch trackpad on the 15.4" MacBook Pro is 50% larger than the previous generation. The Force Touch trackpad takes all the capabilities of multi-touch and adds force sensors that detect subtle differences in the amount of downward pressure you apply. This lets you have a deeper connection to your content, bringing more functionality right to your fingertip. It also introduces haptic feedback to MacBook Pro — allowing you not just to see what's happening on the screen, but to feel it. With multi-touch, you can use realistic gestures like swiping or pinching to switch between apps, navigate your content, and get the most out of your desktop space.
Thinner & Lighter
The 15.4" MacBook Pro features a redesigned enclosure design and all-metal unibody construction that creates a rigid and dense notebook that is also thin and light. At just 15.5 mm thin, the 15.4" MacBook Pro is 14 percent thinner and has 20 percent less volume than the previous generation. It is also nearly half a pound lighter at just four pounds.
The speakers have been totally redesigned to provide as much as twice the dynamic range and up to 58 percent more volume, with two-and-a-half-times louder bass for maximum boom. Plus, they're connected directly to system power, enabling up to three times more peak power.
macOS Sierra
The 15.4" MacBook Pro runs macOS Sierra, which features Siri integration, Universal Clipboard, Apple Pay on the web, and memories in Photos.
Thunderbolt 3
Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes the reversible USB Type-C connector. Doubling the speed of its predecessor, Thunderbolt 3 features a maximum throughput of 40 Gb/s when used with compatible devices. The connector also transmits data via USB 3.1 at up to 10 Gb/s, and dual-bandwidth DisplayPort 1.2 allows you to connect up to two 4K displays simultaneously or one multi-panel 5K display. The Macbook Pro has four ports, with each pair using a dedicated bus.

    Apple MacBook Pro reviews

15.4" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar (Late 2016, Space Gray) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Photographers Dream I was in need of a now laptop and I needed the power for editing and speeds for large file transfers so I looked at the new Macbook. I originally ordered it from apple with a 3-4 week expected wait time, nevertheless I ordered it from apple. about a week in I was shopping for new lens on B&H and I saw the new Mac so I thought I would check and see how much mine was from this site (even tho I knew it would be the same) upon looking I noticed it was in stock so I instantly canceled the apple or and placed the order for pick up, I ran down to B&H and grabbed it. THERE IS NO CONS WITH THIS LAPTOP. at first I thought I might need to get used to the USB to USB-C adapters but I haven't really even noticed it. I bought 5 adapters and they are just left on whatever cables I need. all in all 100% recommend this laptop to everyone of you don't mind the steep price tag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely fast laptop with a rock solid operating system I primarily use this for Adobe CC (Photoshop and Lightroom) and it's more than powerful enough to handle even the largest files I work with (around 1.5 GB psd files). Fastest Pro to date, the internal SSD is lightning fast and I am not having any issues moving over to USB-C, there are multiple dongles available now to get around the backwards compatibility issues with the connectors (this was my main concern when I ordered). I should note that the touch bar is really handy in Photoshop which has fully integrated the touch bar into the application. I purchased the following configuration: Radeon Pro 460, 2.9GB processor, 512GB SSD There are two things that I wish were better. 1. I need 32GB of RAM and that's not an option. 2. I should have ordered the 1TB SSD option, 512GB is not enough for my needs. Overall a great purchase

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it Great machine! Of course there are a couple of bugs that come along with the touch bar (nothing serious), but I'm sure those will be fixed in the future. Overall I am loving my new Macbook Pro, it's a great upgrade from my 2008 Macbook Pro.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Purchase The product is good. Some software bugs, but most over, good. Strong graphics. Great keyboard. Great service from B&H!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent aside from small issues Really enjoying this new MacBook. HATED the keyboard for first couple days, but now I prefer it over my desktop Apple keyboard (with the exception of the half-height arrow keys). Very fast. Screen is beautiful. Handles FCP like a champ, and Premiere like a... well, like most Mac's handle premiere (which is buggy as hell). Wish it had more RAM, but I can deal. Overall, VERY satisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replaced my 2009 MBP - love the new one, nothing but praise Purchased from here. Love no tax and free shipping - makes a high price tag for the MBP easier to swallow. My config is all max spec except 512 gb HD. This machine flies. Battery lasts good 7-9 hours - not sure why people complain its less. You shouldn't play heavy games on the battery, you should not process video projects on battery. Regular use, browsing, watching videos - I am satisfied. Machine is fast. Huge improvement over my last one. Was gonna hold out for the Kaby Lake processor, but decided not to wait. Improvement is going to be nominal, and this thing is a best. Its fast, display is beautiful and I am used to keyboard now, which I actually like. The USB C to USB/SD card adapter solved the dongle problem everyone talks about. I usually don't have things plugged in all the time and use bluetooth mouse, so USB C ports are not an issue for me. I mean, it takes same amount of time to plug my usb stick to the adapter then plug the adapter into the port. If you get a good multi-port adapter, there are no dongles. Non issue. Speakers sound really good, well - great actually. Good range between base, mids and highs, especially for a laptop speaker. Pretty loud too. Loud enough not to need external speaker when I am on bicycle trainer. Final point - the touch bar - I love it. So useful for predictive typing and correction. As you type, it suggests the words, I can type much faster with less typos. The video scrubbing is useful, and so is the photo timeline across, but typing is where its at for me. Have not customized my hotkeys with it yet, will do that sometime in the future, but I love it so far.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from nice product, but has this usb thing as cons this Mac is amazing, considering its a portable notebook. pity this usb-c thing, need an expensive adaptors. yes, it can be the future, but no need expensive adaptors once mostly of mice, tablets, hds, and other stuff still using usb normal

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the money For the past 5 years, I have been using a mid-2009 MBP and recently have gotten into photography and videography. Editing video became a time consuming and frustrating process as I started to receive more work. I needed an upgrade. Although it's on the expensive side, the late 2016 15 MPB was well worth it if you truly use all of it's capabilities. Keep in mind the thunderbolt ports and that you will need to buy an adapter to use most of the cords and accessories you already own.
