Vello LAG-NEX-CEF Overview

Pair your existing Canon EF-mount full-frame lenses with a modern Sony E-mount mirrorless camera and experience the coveted "full-frame look" on APS-C format sensors with the Accelerator Lens Adapter from Vello. By using a specialized 4-element, 4-group optical design, this adapter is able to increase a lens's angle of view by a factor of 0.71x while simultaneously increasing the maximum aperture by one whole stop. This allows a 50mm f/1.4 lens on an APS-C camera to maintain an angle of view close to 50mm while providing it with an f/1.0 equivalent aperture. This setup means full-frame lenses can be adapted to APS-C sensors, or full-frame cameras in APS-C crop mode, without losing the desired natural look of a full-frame system.

The adapter also features electronic coupling, enabling autofocus, auto exposure, aperture control, and other functions during use. It will also transfer Exif data to the camera for appropriate tagging of metadata for easier organization and editing. Along with all of these functions the durable metal adapter sports a removable tripod foot with 1/4"-20 socket for use on a tripod or support system, alleviating strain on the lens mount. Additionally, it has a matte black interior to prevent reflections from interfering with image quality.

Initially exciting, ultimately disappointing

This was cheap enough to take a chance on, but it didn't work out. Some lenses wouldn't communicate with it at all. Others would freeze up the camera. Overall, while it might technically work a little bit, a 90% fail rate on the ones it works with mean I'm just giving up on it entirely.

Solid build, limited autofocus

Actually bought this to mount my Mamiya 645 lenses via an M645 to EF adapter and then that adapter onto this to a Sony E mount body. Partially hoping that it would allow my Mamiya lenses to project a full frame image despite this being a lens accelerator for APS-C bodies. But it didn’t work, so slightly disappointed. However, my Canon EF lenses mount solidly and image quality decrease is very slight (tested the 35mm f/1.4L mark 1 and 135mm f/2L) and as stated in their lens compatibility chart, the 35 autofocus worked without issue but the 135mm would hunt like crazy, even in good light. I do video and focus manually so this is no issue and I do get a stop boost when using the A7II in APS-C mode while still recording 1080p so it’s a great piece of kit. Seeing how Sony full frame stills and video cameras are becoming more mainstream, they’re still somewhat expensive and FS7/5 series camera users can benefit from this great adapter that is a bit cheaper than metabones. Also, I have used metabones adapters before and had issues with the mount loosening and issues with connectors that prevented aperture control and sometimes affected camera recording.

The BLAZAR LENS CATO 40mm T2.0 Full Frame 2x Anamorphic Lens EF, along with several other Blazar EF-mount lenses, is known to have a large rear protrusion. This design detail will prevent these lenses from mounting correctly on cameras or adapters (e.g., the Vello Accelerator Lens Adapter for Canon EF-Mount Lenses to Sony E-Mount Cameras) that contain internal elements.

The Vello Canon EF Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Accelerator AF Lens Adapter is for use with full frame lenses. You would experience extreme vignetting using an APS-C size sensor lens with this adapter, as the adapter reduces the size of the lenss image circle.
